Tiny homes and #vanlife may be all the rage on Instagram, Facebook, and other social media sites, but a small living space can also mean a small sleeping space.
If your vacation or weekend plans include sleeping in the same space as your partner, or you’re just past the stage of life where you’re happy to squeeze into a small nocturnal space, it can be hard to find options in some camper trailers.
While most trailers with a master bedroom-style layout come standard with a queen-sized bed, that doesn’t necessarily equate to a residential-style queen and can be up to five inches shorter. If you or your partner are close to six feet tall (or taller), this can be a major problem.
Especially if you’re used to sleeping on a king, transitioning to a smaller bed on your trip can be tough. A king-sized mattress adds at least another foot to the width of the bed and makes a huge difference when you want to stretch out.
Of course, upgrading to a king is an option in some camper trailer models, but that often adds an additional cost and makes the sleeping area feel cramped.
We’ve rounded up seven camper trailers that come standard with a king size bed so you can really relax when it’s time for lights out.
1. Palomino Puma 31FKRK
At the top of our list is the Palomino Puma 31FKRK. Palomino’s Puma line is built to be durable and easy to tow with a 1/2 ton tow vehicle. The 31FKRK has an exterior length of 37’8″, so it can go pretty much anywhere you want it to. It also has an interior height of 80 inches, so there’s plenty of headroom for you and your guests.
This layout is unique because of its front kitchen with an L-shaped counter that gives the feeling of a residential living space. The front wall holds the deep sink with a roll-up cover, lots of counter space, and cabinets. The entry wall sports a three-burner range with a flush-mount cover, oven, and microwave.
This model comes standard with a 6 cubic foot refrigerator that can be upgraded to 11 cubic feet. All the kitchen appliances are stainless steel and the decorative backsplash and accent lighting are a nice touch.
Next to the refrigerator is the large pantry and the entertainment center. The entertainment center holds a TV that can pull out to be angled, maximizing the viewing area in the living space, and has a 31-inch fireplace underneath.
The slide in the front of the trailer holds the dinette (or optional free-standing table and chairs) and matching recliners that sit across from the entertainment center. The living space also has a trifold sofa which pulls out to a queen-sized bed.
Just behind the sofa is the bathroom with a 34 x 34 shower that has sliding glass doors and a skylight. The sink vanity has underneath storage as well as a mirrored medicine cabinet. The bathroom also has a foot-flush toilet and a large linen closet with an upper and lower storage area.
The master bedroom has a second exterior entrance and holds a 72 x 80 king size walk around bed with a window at the head in its slide. There are two large wardrobes equipped for hanging storage and one can be outfitted with an optional washer/dryer unit. The wall opposite the bed has a dresser and space to hook up an optional TV.
Another great option on this model is adding an outside kitchen with a mini-fridge and induction cooktop to optimize your outdoor space.
2. Jayco White Hawk 32KBS
If you’re not as jazzed as we are about the front kitchen, a more traditional layout can be found in the Jayco White Hawk 32KBS. Jayco is ubiquitous in the RV world because of their well-built trailers, and the White Hawk line features luxury light-weight trailers. This model has an exterior length of 37’10” and an interior height of 81 inches.
The 32KBS puts the master bedroom in the front of the trailer behind pocket doors. The front wall holds two wardrobes flanking a bench in front of a window, making a nice reading space.
The slide out in the bedroom accommodates the 72 x 80 king size bed. Opposite the bed is a large panoramic window with a dresser underneath and there is an option to add a fireplace or TV to this space.
When you enter this camper trailer, there is a nice entryway closet as well as a corner pantry, and the L-shaped counter in the kitchen space has a countertop extension for even more prep or serving space.
While the solid surface countertop and stainless steel appliances are nice, one of the best features here is the pull-up charger station at the end of the counter that can be hidden when not in use.
The three-burner range has a Dometic stove top with a cool knife block behind it for easy storage. This model also comes standard with an 8 cubic foot refrigerator.
The entertainment unit in the living area comes with a 50-inch TV set and an attractive fireplace which also functions as a space heater. Across from the entertainment center is the White Hawk’s second slide which is carpeted and contains a roomy tri-fold sofa and the u-shaped dinette.
The bathroom is located in the rear of the trailer, just off the living space, with a large walk-in closet that has motion sensor lighting to easily see what’s on the shelves or hanging on the rack. The foot-flush toilet is porcelain and next to the large corner shower.
The 32KBS also comes with an outdoor kitchen, containing a pull-out two burner stove, small sink, and a mini-fridge under the 21-foot awning which is also helpfully lit underneath by LED lighting.
3. Heartland North Trail 33RETS
If you like having the bedroom in the front of the trailer, but don’t want to have to walk the length of your camper for a middle-of-the-night bathroom trip, you might be more interested in the floor plan of Heartland’s North Trail 33RETS.
This model has an exterior length of 39’8″, and one of its big selling points is the crowned roof which allows for 82-inch interior ceiling height. That means a good bit of headroom for travelers who are above the 6-foot range.
This model has a total of three slides, the first of which is in the bedroom to make room for the king size bed. The front wall of this trailer is a large wardrobe area with sliding glass doors, hanging storage, and washer/dryer hookups. Opposite the bed is a dresser, large window, and overhead storage area.
The bathroom can be accessed through the entryway of the trailer or through the bedroom. The bathroom features a corner shower with sliding doors, a foot-flush toilet, and sink with vanity and boasts the addition of a linen closet.
The remaining two slides are in the main living area, both carpeted. The slide on the entry side has the free-standing table and chairs and theater seating with built-in cupholders. This slide has four windows to let in lots of natural light whether you are breakfasting in the morning or taking it easy in the evening.
The opposing slide features the entertainment center, complete with a fireplace, opposite the theater chairs and the galley. The galley area holds the oven, three-burner stove, and microwave beside the two (yes, TWO) double-door residential-style refrigerators.
Having the refrigerators and cooking area on the slide opens up one wall to be used solely as counter and cabinet space, which makes prep work, and cooking with two people, infinitely easier. The dual sink is located on the center island which has additional storage and counter space.
4. Venture RV SportTrek Touring
In the middle of our list, Venture RV’s SportTrek Touring line combines the best of a luxury travel trailer with the adventure of those who love to camp.
This means that nine of their ten-floor plans come with a king size bed standard and eight of these layouts are equipped with outdoor cooking areas and/or pass-thru storage. All of their models can also be upgraded with an optional storage rack for bikes or other outdoor equipment.
This line is definitely worth a look because the floor plans are so varied that you can easily feel as though this trailer has been custom designed for you. There are options for a rear kitchen or a rear bedroom, having the dining area separated from the living space or an open floor plan with a hutch.
Our pick for this list is the STT322VRL travel trailer because it has some unique features while maintaining a familiar, traditional layout. It measures 35’11” in exterior length and has an interior height of 82 inches.
In this model, the entry is at the rear of the trailer. Along the back wall is the 70-inch tri-fold sofa which extends to a bed and has handy end tables on either side. Above is a large window as well as overhead storage.
The carpeted slide in this space holds the theater seating and because the entertainment center (with fireplace) is angled, there is nothing to move or manipulate to enable the TV to be viewed easily from both of the seating areas.
Also on this slide is the standard free-standing table and chairs which are opposite the L-shaped kitchen. The kitchen comes standard with an 8 cubic foot refrigerator, three-burner range, and dual kitchen sink. This layout gives the feeling of separation between the living area and the kitchen without adding any bulky walls or dividers.
The bathroom is accessed through the hallway, which means that it isn’t on display through the trailer’s entry and it also isn’t shoved to the end of the trailer. This bathroom has a 30 x 36 shower with a skylight, and the toilet is opposite the vanity and sink.
The master suite is in the front of the trailer and the slide holds the head of the 70 x 80 king bed. This king is 2 inches narrower than the previous king size beds on this list, but still a good 10 inches wider than the standard queen. Opposite the bed is the dresser with a fireplace and TV hookup.
The bedroom also has a cushy window seat between the dual hanging wardrobes, and the room has a third wardrobe with a washer/dryer area as well. While this model doesn’t have an outdoor kitchen, it does have a pass-through storage area that can easily fit a grill or other portable cooking surface.
5. Cruiser RV Radiance
Cruiser RV’s Radiance line is another that has a lot of floor plans to choose from with a king size bed coming standard. If you’re looking for a shorter trailer made for two, check out the R-22RB. This simply designed model has an exterior length of 27’5″, but the shorter size doesn’t extend to the interior height which hits 83 inches.
This economical model has only one slide which contains the u-shaped dinette and residential-style 6 cubic foot refrigerator across from the similarly u-shaped kitchen. For those who like to cook, the kitchen offers a huge amount of counter space and plenty of storage.
Another great feature of the kitchen is having the trash chute located in the counter space beside the three-burner range. The kitchen also features hardwood framed cabinet doors with hidden hinges, a large sink with a high-rise faucet, and steel ball-bearing full extension drawer guides.
The bathroom is located in the rear of the trailer and has an insane amount of counter space. The sink sits in the corner of the bathroom along with a mirrored medicine cabinet, and the counter runs the entire length of the wall. As an added bonus, additional shelf space is built in next to the shower.
The entertainment center is on the wall that separates the kitchen from the bedroom and has additional storage as well as a large TV. The master bedroom is accessed by one of two doors along this wall that place you on either side of the 72 x 80 king size bed.
There are also storage areas overhead and closets on either side as well as nightstands. There are windows on both sides of the bed as well as rooftop ventilation, and the wall facing the bed has space for a TV mount as well.
Among the optional features available on this model are a bumper mount LP BBQ grill and A/C upgrades.
6. KZ RV Sportsmen Destination 362BH
If a shorter couple’s coach isn’t quite your style, check out the Sportsmen Destination line of travel trailers from KZ RV. These camper trailers offer a residential living experience with large floorplans and standard king size beds.
The 362BH model is great for those who like lots of space or need additional sleeping area. This trailer is a whopper with an exterior length of 40’9″ and an interior height of 82 inches.
The bunkhouse is in the front of the trailer and has 34 x 72 bunks on one side and a 28-inch dinette on the other with a bunk above. Between the bunks is a closet with room to mount a TV.
The living space has a 64-inch sofa on the slide next to the u-shaped dinette which has additional storage. across from the slide are the kitchen with a giant 18 cubic foot residential refrigerator, three-burner range, oven, and microwave along with a generous amount of counter space and a large stainless steel sink with a high rise faucet.
The entertainment center comes standard with a 30-inch fireplace and sits on the shared bathroom wall, making it visible from anywhere in the living space.
The bathroom has a corner shower with sliding doors opposite a corner toilet and includes a linen closet in addition to the storage space at the vanity.
The 70 x 80 king-sized bed in the rear of this trailer is slightly narrower than most of the models on this list, but the bedroom has its own exterior entrance as well as a large amount of storage space under the bed.
There is also storage space in the closets that run the width of the trailer, and in the dresser located across from the bed where a TV can also be mounted. The closet space also has a section prepped for a washer/dryer.
7. Keystone Sprinter Limited 333FKS
To finish out our list, Keystone RV’s Sprinter Limited offers four travel trailer models, two of which come standard with the narrower 70 x 80 king size bed. Both models have the master suite in the rear of the trailer.
The 333FKS model is a great moderate length at 37’9″, although its interior height is slightly shallower than most of the other models listed at around 80 inches.
This model places the kitchen in the front of the trailer, with the front wall holding dual pantry spaces on either side of an extra-large sink and faucet with a cutting board. The three-burner range with a glass top is located, along with additional counter space, on the center island for a uniquely functional appeal.
The open living area has two slide outs. The first holds two 7 cubic foot refrigerators and the microwave underneath another prep area. Besides the microwave nook, is the entertainment center with a 55-inch TV and a 31-inch fireplace.
The second slide has your choice of either a booth dinette or free-standing table and chairs and fully reclining theater seating. The living area is rounded out by a large tri-fold sofa which extends into a queen-sized bed with 6 inches of memory foam.
The sofa sits against the shared wall with the bathroom which contains a radius glass shower with a skylight and a stainless steel vanity sink underneath the mirrored medicine cabinet.
Another great bathroom feature is the illuminated light switch which makes finding the light in the dark a whole lot easier.
The master bedroom in the rear of the trailer is fully carpeted, a real bonus on chilly mornings. The head of the walk around king size bed is located in the third and final slide of this trailer.
The rear wall of the trailer is an enormous window, allowing for great views and lots of natural light. The wall opposite the bed has a large dresser with a seat beside it, a great spot for putting on shoes or simply reading. The dresser area is also prepped for TV installation if you like to have one in the bedroom.
The bedroom also has a large mirrored wardrobe with plenty of room for hanging clothes or storage, and another storage area is found beneath the bed as well.
Outside the trailer is an outdoor kitchen complete with a mini-fridge and two-burner cooktop and is prepped and ready for a TV install so you can cook outside and watch the game or just chill with family and friends.
