How can I glow up?

what you NEED to know about glow ups | how to glow up 2021 + the science of glowing up

Which drink make skin glow?

Morning drinks play an important role in body metabolism and the stomach-cleansing process. Starting the day with sipping one or two litres of water helps clear all metabolic waste from the body and, in turn, leads to clear skin. Similarly, there are other morning drinks that are helpful for getting clear and healthy skin for both men and women. Dr Stuti Khare Shukla shares five essential drinks that you can start your day with for a glowing and healthy skin.

Water Therapy

Drinking a good amount of water gives wonderful results. Our body consists of 75 per cent water in the form of fluids, and water has several functions that keep skin clean and healthy; dehydration, on the other hand, makes our skin dry and itchy. Consuming an average of 4.5 to 5.5 litres of water daily boosts your body with minerals and oxygen carriers, releases all toxins from it, and results in maintaining the electrolyte balance of the body with skin moisturisers, preventing acne.

Honey And Lemon Water

Add two to three spoons of honey and a spoon of lemon juice to water as this acts as an electrolyte and produces antioxidants and anti-ageing components. It helps in cleaning out harmful toxins from your body and also helps in weight loss. While honey has anti-ageing nutrients that keep your skin moisturised, lemon contains vitamin C that helps in new cell and skin rejuvenation.

Fruit Juices

Health

Fruits are rich in vitamins and micronutrients. Fruits like carrots, beetroots, pomegranate and even vegetables like sweet potato have rich minerals and vitamins that help in preventing acne and boost healthy skin. Carrot and beetroot contain vitamin A that prevents acne, wrinkles and pigmentation, and helps maintain healthy skin, Beetroot juice provides good blood circulation and keeps skin healthy. Even salads, of tomatoes and cucumbers, can also prevent acne if these salads are included in one’s regular diet.

Green Tea

Beauty

If you are a tea lover, add green tea or lemon tea to your diet. It prevents acne and contains vitamin C along with other nutrients that keep skin naturally healthy and glowing.

Turmeric Milk

Turmeric is a traditional and Ayurvedic medicine that acts as an antibiotic and antiviral agent. It is rich in antioxidants that retard the ageing process. Adding one spoon of turmeric to milk or hot water every morning can give good results for healthy skin.

How long does it take to glow up?

The art of “glowing up” is a very intricate, elaborate and individual process that usually happens over three to six years and sometimes even up to 10 years. Urban Dictionary defines a “glow up” as an “incredible transformation,” or “to go from the bottom to the top to the point of disbelief.” Essentially, glow up is another phrase for going through puberty, but the glow up process focuses on the improvement of physical appearance, individual style, overall attractiveness and maturity, in contrast to puberty, which basically focuses on physical and biological developments, such as facial hair for boys and periods for girls. However, if you are one of the people that has a permanent babyface and never seems to age (um, congrats), your glow up will probably only apply to your maturity and style. For general purposes, however, most people look different from middle school to senior year of high school due to their glow up.

The glow up process can start off incredibly slow, and it is not until the later years of the process that you actually see results and the outline of what you will look like and who you will be as an adult. People generally begin their glow up as early as sixth grade but may not even know it. Glow ups are usually complete as early as the summer before your junior year or as late as the summer after your senior year. Please note that glow up does not mean you should wear a bunch of makeup at 13, so that you suddenly look like a senior in high school. Your glow up must be natural, and it is a necessary phase in life.

I Ate & Worked Out Like Kylie Jenner For A Day... INTENSE LOL

Your glow up is also the time to find your interests, your aesthetic tastes, your dislikes, your talents, your pet-peeves and even your purpose. This first phase of your glow up is what makes the process so long, and it usually takes two to five years. The second phase takes up the last one to three years. If you’re not satisfied with your body shape, this is the time to hit the gym or to think seriously about your diet, because what you do now and how you take care of your body now will affect the condition of your body in 30, 40 or even 50 years according to HelpGuide. You’re also finding your individual style, like what clothes and colors you like best on you. This is the perfect time for rebranding yourself.

You know when your glow up is complete or if you are nearing the end of your second phase if you feel more confident in yourself and if you are more calm and content with what you look like and how you act. Your glow up is complete when you love yourself unconditionally, and your love for yourself, your body, and your interests will not waver because of the opinions of others. People who have fully glowed up have mastered the skill of appreciating the beauty of others without doubting their own beauty.

If all this hasn’t happened yet, do not fear. Don’t think that because you are not as confident in yourself as others, that you have failed at glowing up or that you are lesser than anyone who is confident. Some people are just naturally more confident than others, and some people show their confidence more overtly than others. Gaining confidence is another process in itself, but once you acquire self-confidence, despite how long it takes, your glow up will be much more enjoyable.

All that being said, please remember that each person’s glow up process looks different. If your friends are glowing up faster than you, do not get discouraged. This is your individual journey to adulthood and maturity. Some people who were too busy worrying about other people’s glow up, grow up without glowing up, and they realize that they are unhappy and easily discouraged and grumpy. You don’t want to be a grumpy 50-year-old who hates everything. Patiently waiting for your glow up to happen is one of the most important things to ensure full success at the end of your glow up. The most important thing is to make it completely natural; otherwise it won’t happen correctly.

How can a teenage girl get glow?

Being a teenage girl is tough, parents will often tell you as you roll your eyes at them (spoiler alert: they can see you, but they did the same thing at your age). There’s homework to do, and hormones to deal with, and you feel like the weight of the world is on your shoulders. All this worry can wear you down, both inside and out. No wonder you have headaches, blemishes, or bad hair days! However, there is hope. Instead of stressing about everything that’s out of your control, there are several things within your power that you can do to look and feel your best.

POWER OF MAKEUP: Adele! | NikkieTutorials

Even though we all have our faults, we should still try to put our best face forward. Before you get ready to face the day, read these 25 tips. You’ll feel better, look better, and your body and mind will thank you.

25 Beauty Tips For Teenage Girls To Look Flawless.jpeg

1. Drink water like your life depends on it. We all know we can’t survive without water, but are we getting enough of it every day? The recommended amount is 8-10 glasses a day (and no, sodas and coffee won’t quite cut it). One way to ensure you start your day off right is to down a glass of water right after you wake up. It gets you going on your daily water intake and helps hydrate you before you get too busy. Water is life. Agua es vida. It’s true in every language.

2. Lengthen your lashes. Yes, we’re still on the subject of lashes. Long, short, light, dark, straight, or curled, our lashes help us keep dust and other particles out of our eyes, and add a little something to our overall look. Even before Faline first batted her eyes at Bambi, long lashes have been something we long for. While there are products that promise to lengthen your eyelashes, the key ingredient is often castor oil.

3. Keep an eye on your eyes. There are a lot of options for eyes – liners and primers and shades, oh my! Who has the time? For a daytime school look, you might do well to remember that less is more. If you don’t use mascara, try using a thick eyeliner stick and smudging just a little at the lash line to make eyes pop. Or, maybe use a shimmery shadow over the eyelids. In other words, don’t go overboard. Take a look at your mom’s yearbook photo from 1992 and do the exact opposite.

4. For foundation, two shades are better than one. Since the skin on your face isn’t all one color and may change throughout the seasons, it’s a good idea to get two shades. Go for one that best matches your skin tone, and one that’s a little lighter. Then you can blend the two together if needed.

5. Wash your face well. We’re not done talking about water just yet! After that first drink of the day, it’s time to splash some warm water on your face along with a mild cleanser. Get the gunk off that has gathered on your face overnight (say buh-bye to the sleep in your eyes and those dead skin cells). A mild option like Viviane Woodards’ Clean Finish Cleanser works well to balance skin whether it’s oily or dry. Waking up is hard to do, but a quick wash can be rather refreshing.

6. Try a toner. While some skip this step (and it’s ok if you do, sometimes), a nice toner can help remove excess dirt and oil while also balancing the pH of your skin. It can help control acne as well. After you apply the toner, allow your skin to air-dry before you put on your moisturizer.

7. Remember to Moisturize. There are more reasons to moisturize than just preventing dryness. A good moisturizer helps prepare your skin for your make-up and keeps your complexion from looking dull. There are many moisturizers to choose from but one like Viviane Woodard’s water-based Enriched Moisturizer fights dryness with nutrients and antioxidants while smoothing and soothing even the most sensitive skin.

8. Let the sunshine in – but not too much on your delicate skin. We’re not suggesting you hide under a hat all through high school, or apply globs of sunscreen. Luckily, a lot of foundations contain SPF without feeling sticky, like Viviane Woodard’s Mineral Vegan Liquid Foundation. It goes on silky and sets to a powdery finish that leaves your face feeling smooth and flawless. It comes in various shades and works well with all skin types.

9. Don’t dye too often. Always bleaching or constantly adding color stresses out your tresses. End of story. Live to dye another day.

10. Know thyself. It’s not only a maxim that makes you sound smart, it’s also advice to live by. Think about what makes you feel comfortable, what is flattering, and what you have time to do every day. If you go full Broadway stage makeup on Sunday and don’t have the energy to run a brush through your hair by Saturday, you might be doing it wrong. Make sure you look and feel your most authentic self.

11. Find your favorite feature. Pick the part of you that you love most and shine a light on it (not literally, though good lighting can make a world of difference). Enhance your best feature by giving it a little extra attention. If it’s your eyebrows, use a good brow brush; if it’s your lips, never leave the house without your signature shade.

12. Keep it appropriate. Don’t go for a Top Model mug on the daily. Unless you’re in a play or having fun at a sleepover, a more natural look is what you want. When you’re first working your way around the make-up counter, it can be tempting to try it all, but pace yourself. The Joker may be a great movie, but it’s not meant to be a make-up tutorial.

13. Try a new ’do, from time to time. There are so many options when it comes to your hair, so have a little fun with it. Braids – whether they be French, Dutch, fishtail or one of several other styles – can showcase natural highlights and keep hair under control. Even if you just braid a few strands of your lovely locks, it helps hair stay out of your face and lets you focus on what’s in front of you, whatever or whomever that may be. Checkout this awesome tutorial on how to do all of these braids!

14. Keep it simple. When it comes to your overall style, don’t be extra, as they say. You want people to see you as a complete person, not just a head full of scrunchies or a walking jewelry box. That’s already been done – just Google “80s fashion DON’Ts” for a fun stroll down what-not-to-wear lane.

15. Don’t go overboard on base. Remember, you’re building a foundation, not a wall. Many of us make the mistake of piling on the foundation like we’re spackling or painting a room. Layering clothes is a good thing; foundation, not so much. A little bit of you should still shine through, so be sure that everything is smoothed in and not too thick. Pro tip: make sure the area around your chin is blended well.

16. Leave your lips bare. If you’ve already got your skin and eyes on point, you might be able to skip the lipstick and just go with the gloss. It’s always a good idea to use a lip scrub like Viviane Woodard’s Sugar Lip Scrub to gently remove the dead skin, which can be done once or twice a week.

17. Or, on second thought…give your lips a burst of sheer color. Sometimes a bright lip can brighten your day. One way to keep color lasting longer is by using a lip liner all over your lips (first, make sure they’re not dry or cracked). Then, use a balm or gloss to spread over the top to provide moisture and a shinier finish. If you want a cruelty-free, vegan option, go for Viviane Woodard’s Smoothing Lip Balm.

18. Eat your breakfast! Breakfast may or may not be the most important meal of the day but it’s still important. You need a little fuel to face the day. Of course, sugary cereals aren’t the smartest choice, so try some oatmeal for fiber, eggs to get your protein, or avocado toast for the yum of it (and also for vitamins C and E, as well as those heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids). Bon appetit!

19. Brush your teeth It’ll be harder to flash those pearly whites with pride if you still have half your breakfast stuck between them. Smile with confidence, and keep your teeth clean.

20. Bring a mint Throw a mint or some gum in your bag for later on in the day when that freshness fades.

21. Brush, Marsha, brush. Most of you are too young to remember the Brady Bunch reference, but that’s beside the point. Brushing your hair distributes the natural oils from your scalp all the way to the ends. It also stimulates the scalp and increases blood flow. If you have straight hair, brushing your hair a couple times a day is a good idea. However, if your hair is curly, you’ll be better off using a wide-toothed comb after you condition.

22. You do you. Again, since these are all tips and guidelines, remember that some rules are made to be broken. So…if keeping it simple doesn’t do it for you, then you do you. If you’ve decided flare is your favorite then that’s your thing, and it’s nobody’s business to tell you otherwise. Just make sure you wear it with confidence, or else you might look like a refrigerator with too many magnets. Whatever you decide, just own it!

confidence and beauty for teenagersstarts with quality skincare

23. Take note of trends, but don’t be a copycat. Trying to track down and copy every trend is so 2019. It’s hard to keep up with the Kardashians when you don’t have the money to buy whatever you want on a whim. There’s been a lot in the news lately about fast fashion, where popular styles move quickly from the runway to the stores to the customers, and sadly, to the garbage. Needless to say, if everyone is getting a whole new wardrobe every week, it can take a toll on the people who make the clothes as well as the planet.

24. Second hand is new to you. If you really want to be on the cutting edge and create an original look, think about shopping second-hand, doing a clothing swap with friends, or even just buying a belt to make an outfit you already have feel brand new. When you’re with your girlfriends, be sure to share tips and tricks, as you boost each other up.

25. Get some sleep, gorgeous! Sometimes our brains are buzzing with all the drama of the day and it can be hard to hit the hay. But as Taylor Swift has told us repeatedly, you need to calm down. Try techniques that help you settle before you sleep, whether it be a warm bath or listening to a relaxing mix of your favorite tunes. Before you turn in for the night, turn off that tablet and ditch your digital devices. Who ever said you snooze you lose? Winners snooze! Getting enough sleep improves your ability to concentrate and gives your body a chance to rest and repair. You can try to trick your parents that you didn’t stay up all night talking to your BFF, but your skin will tell on you. It’s called beauty sleep for a reason.

It never hurts to give yourself a little pep talk in the mirror before you head out for the day, so always remember, there’s only one you, and you’re flawless. Refer back to this list as needed, and enjoy your youth!

I think it’s safe to say it’s been a rough year for us all.

How to Glow Up Physically

There are quite a few things you can do to glow up physically and become more confident than ever. Keep in mind, this is all about you feeling amazing.

Drink more water

The first way to glow up in 2021 is to drink more water. I know, you’ve probably heard this a thousand times, but it’s true!

You need water to function, so you’ll feel so much better when you start drinking more of it.

Not only that, it’s amazing for other things like clearing up your skin.

I always start off my morning routine with a glass of water.

Start a Skincare Routine

You all, I did not have an actual skincare routine until about a month ago.

TikTok Beauty HACKS | Hygiene Tips Every Girl Must Know✨

I realized I was using all of the wrong products, so I ran to Walmart, got a ton of new (affordable) stuff, and I’ve stuck to my skincare routine ever since. I’m not exaggerating when I say my skin has never looked better.

Here is my new skincare routine-

AM

Rinse face with cold water

Apply vitamin C serum

Apply moisturizer

Use a jade roller

PM

Wash face with gentle foaming cleanser

Apply retinol serum

Apply anti-wrinkle under eye cream

Apply moisturizer

I’ve started my “preventing wrinkles” routine a little early (I’m 24), so I included some anti wrinkle and retinol products!

Get some Exercise

You probably knew this one is coming.

A great way to glow up is to get more exercise if you’re not already.

I’m not just talking about a physical glow up. I’m talking mentally. Exercise will boost your energy, improve your mood, and make you feel more confident.

You should get at least 30 minutes of exercise 5x a week.

Eat more Fruits and Veggies

Another way to glow up is to start incorporating more fruits and veggies into your diet.

This will make your skin glow and make you feel 10x better because you’re getting more vitamins.

Slow down on the Junk Food

Junk food has the opposite effect compared to eating fruits and vegetables.

Junk food will make you feel bad, bloating, and might even be wrecking your complexion.

Try cutting back on junk food for a glow up in 2021.

Get your Hair Healthier

If you didn’t already notice, we’re trying to be healthier because THAT is what makes you your better self.

That includes haircare. It’s time to do something about your damaged hair!

Try adding new serums (I love coconut milk oil), using less heat, and using shampoos and conditioners that are better for your hair.

A recent trend I’ve been seeing that makes your hair super healthy and shiny is rice water for hair.

Try New Makeup and Hairstyles

If you want to feel good, you need to experiment to figure out what makes you feel good.

Try new makeup and hairstyles. Maybe doing your makeup a certain way or having your hair a certain color makes you feel better about yourself.

Work on your Posture

If you’re like me, you’re probably slumped over with your head down looking at your phone or computer right now.

You need to fix your posture ASAP! First, this is just another way you can be healthier by supporting healthier bones and joints.

You’d also be surprised how much your posture can improve your confidence!

Chin up!

How to Glow Up Mentally

Meditate Every Day

One of the best ways to glow up mentally and physically is by meditating.

Meditating makes you more mindful, less stressed, and peaceful.

Glow Up Transformations | Best Tik Tok Challenge 💖✨

Keep in mind, meditating is a skill that you have to work on. Start just meditating  for 5 minutes and work your way up. There are tons of guided meditations on Spotify and YouTube that are perfect for beginners.

Work on your Confidence

If you take anything from this, I want you to know that confidence is where it’s at. If you want to glow up, the best thing you can do is learn to be more confident.

It doesn’t matter what you do to be more confident. You could dye your hair blue or wear clothes that you love but have been afraid to wear.

Learn to practice self love and romanticize your life!

Do the Things you Love

Nothing screams glow up like finally doing the things you love.

I know, it’s hard to find time. It’s time to make a little time!

Start spending your time doing the things you love, whether that’s watching Netflix or spending time with your family.

Recommended: How to Romanticize your Life

Surround Yourself with Positivity

If you want to be happier, you need to cut out the negativity in your life. Whether that’s people, bad habits, your work that you hate, etc.

Start replacing all of these negative things with people who have a positive effect on you and good habits.

Of course, it’s okay to not be positive 100% of the time cause that’s just a charade. BUT if you find that there are specific things constantly dragging you down, cut it out.

Work on a Skill You’ve Always Wanted

Is there something you’ve always wanted to work on, but you just feel like you never have time to start? Now is your chance!

Glow up Zuhause in 2 Stunden with me💅🏽

Start improving that skill you’ve always wanted to. It could be anything from drawing to learning a new language.

Glowing up is all about self improvement, which means improving our skills!

Set Goals for Yourself

How will you be able to tell if you’ve actually made any progress?

You can’t unless you set goals for yourself.

Pull out that planner or journal and write down your weekly, monthly, and yearly goals to keep yourself on track.

Avoid making these mistakes when you’re setting goals.

Practice Gratitude

Trust me when I say practicing gratitude will make you a much happier person.

Every morning I wake up, and I think of at least three things I am grateful for.

Practicing gratitude forces you to think about the good in life and changes your negative mindset to a positive one.

You can get this free daily gratitude planner here.

Read Personal Development Books

Over the past few months, I’ve had a lot more time on my hands. I got some of these personal development books, and they’ve changed my life.

I highly recommend you to invest in some of these books. They’re great for learning about the law of attraction, building your confidence, overcoming anxiety, and just improving yourself in general.

Out of these 18 ways to glow up, reading more of these self help type books has been my favorite.

One of the best personal development books I’ve read so far is The Power of Now.

Start Using Affirmations

Using affirmations is something I’m still working on.

Affirmations are basically positive statements that you say or write. If you say something enough, you slowly start to believe it. If you practice enough, these affirmations will rewrite the way you think- without you thinking about it.

For example, here are some daily positive affirmations for motivation and self-esteem.

Figure out Who You Are

There’s so much in this world that influences us that it’s hard to know who we even are.

Sometimes I feel like my whole personality changes based on a movie I watch or a book I read.

It’s important to know who you are without being influenced by your friends and family.

What do you like when they’re not around? I think the best way to figure out who you are is just to experiment. Try new things and figure out what you like and don’t.

We’re always changing, so it’s important to keep experimenting and learning more about ourselves.

Follow a skincare routine to help your skin glow. Your skin is one of the first things that people notice about you and having glowing skin will really help your transformation shine! Clean your face with water twice a day and use a toner, moisturizer, and exfoliator that is suitable for your skin type. Remember to take off your makeup each night before you go to sleep so that you wake up with fresh and smooth skin.[1]

If you have problems or concerns about your skin, visit a dermatologist for professional advice. Getting your skin to glow might be as simple as using a different product or getting more of a specific nutrient!

Stand up straight and tall to improve your posture. Your posture can make a huge difference in your appearance! Keep your back straight, your shoulders back, and your arms resting naturally by your sides. When you’re sitting down, keep your back at a right angle to your thighs and try to release any tension to prevent straining your muscles.[2]

If you experience any pain or are having trouble maintaining good posture, visit a doctor or a physiotherapist for professional advice.

Expert Trick: Change out your accessories to make your outfits shine. If you're going out, add jazzy, funky accessories to your outfits, like bold statement necklaces or a cheetah or snakeskin shoe. Drink1⁄2 US gal (1.9 L) of water every day to stay hydrated. Glowing up happens from the inside out and water is the key to helping you look and feel your best every day. Buy a reusable drink bottle and keep it filled up with fresh water at all times. Carry it with you wherever you go to remind yourself to stay hydrated![6]

1⁄2 US gal (1.9 L) of water is just an approximate figure, as the ideal amount of water differs from person to person. Drink the amount of water that helps you to feel your best and visit a doctor or a dietitian if you have any concerns.

If you aren’t the biggest fan of plain water, you can always make infused water using your favorite produce to give it a bit more flavor. Try strawberries, cucumber, oranges, or mint!

Remembering to drink more water can be difficult when you first start. Try setting a reminder on your phone or putting a note on the fridge. Alternatively, you can also download smartphone apps that track your water intake and give you friendly reminders.

Eat a well-balanced diet with plenty of fruit and vegetables. How you fuel your body can make a huge difference to your glow up. Each 5-9 servings of fruit and vegetables per day, and plenty of lean protein, whole-grains, and healthy fats. Remember that everything in moderation is the best way to go, so limit your intake of processed foods but treat yourself occasionally too.[8]

Visit a doctor or a dietician if you have any concerns about your diet.

Avoid skipping meals or following fad diets, as these practices won’t help you to look and feel your best.

Exercise regularly to keep yourself healthy. Exercise helps you to look and feel your best, in both your body and mind! Find a type of exercise that you enjoy, such as swimming, running, or yoga. Aim to exercise 3-5 times per week, unless you have been instructed otherwise by a health professional. You can also exercise with friends if that makes it more fun![9]

You don’t have to join a gym unless you want to. There are plenty of ways to exercise in your own home.

Becoming Confident and Setting Goals

Say positive affirmations every day to help build good self-esteem. A huge part of your glow up is learning to believe in yourself! Write down recurrent, negative thoughts and then write positive, logical affirmations as a counter-argument. Practice saying these positive affirmations aloud every day. Although it may feel difficult or silly at the beginning, with enough time and practice it should become easier to believe the positive affirmations.[10]

Some popular positive affirmations include, “I deserve to be happy,”, “I am an intelligent and hard-working person,” and “I am capable of reaching my goals,”.

Surround yourself with positive people that support you. The attitude of the people who you are close to can influence you greatly. Seek family and friends that have a positive attitude and are supportive of who you are! You can also be positive and supportive to those around you, helping them glow too![11]

If you are having trouble finding positive and supportive people, try making a few new friends. Join a club or group with people that have similar interests, use social media, or simply reach out and talk to new people that you normally wouldn't. You have nothing to lose!

Use positive self-talk and practice being assertive to help your confidence grow. Glowing up is all about having the confidence to shine and to be your best self. Even if you don’t feel confident right away, simply fake it till you make it and nobody will be able to tell the difference! Use positive self-talk to bring yourself up instead of down, challenge negative thoughts about yourself, and practice being assertive in your day-to-day life. It can also help to surround yourself with confident people, as their confidence can rub off on you![12]

If you are having trouble with your confidence or self-esteem, talking to a mental health professional like a counselor or psychologist can really help.

Set achievable goals and challenge yourself to accomplish them. Maybe you have financial, career, or personal goals that you have been wanting to achieve? Sit down and write a list of your goals. Then break each goal up into smaller, actionable steps that you can get started on. Keep your goals realistic and celebrate your successes![13]

Remember that your goals can be as big or as little as you like. As long as you are realistic about how you will achieve them, that’s all that matters!
