It only becomes illegal when there is sex involved, the person you are having sex with is under 16, and you would be either 1 )four years older but less than eight years older than the complainant OR 2) eight years older but less than 11 years older than the complainant. So for example, you are only 3 years apart in age for this girl, so you are OK. But if you were 16 years old, and you had sex with her, you would be guilty of Statutory Rape.
