From her first bra fitting (which are usually quite uncomfortable) to her lusting around the lingerie sections of every showroom defines her ‘growing up’ phase. With so many options to explore through, bra ultimately becomes a girl’s best friend.
While right now you must be showing off your racer back bra to all your friends, do you remember the first time that you were asked to try one? Was it awkward? Was it comfortable? Here’s all you need to walk down the memory lane.
#1. Do I Need A Bra?
Your need of wearing a bra is based on certain developments that take place in your body during puberty. A bra is meant to provide support, grip, and coverage to your tender breasts which otherwise would slag. This list will talk about the signs that your body gives to tell you that it’s time to shop for your first bra.
#. When the breast buds start poking out from your shirt.
#. When your regular jumping starts feeling awkward due to the breast movement.
#. When you start feeling the need of some support for holding your breasts.
#2. What Age Should You Wear A Bra?
Girls often face the question of ‘do I need a bra’ as soon as they hit their first period. While there is no such fixed age of when you should start wearing a bra; it usually collides around the same time when you start menstruating. Talking in numbers, a girl with an average built might feel the need of wearing a bra at the age of 12-13, whereas plump girls will need it a little earlier. Tall girls can wait for a little longer ( say till 14) to experience their first bra-fitting session.
To make your first bra fitting a comfortable experience, we would suggest you start with a camisole. A camisole acts as a bridge which helps you in moving towards the world of real bras. While switching from a camisole to an actual bra, you’d experience a better grip and structure.
How was your experience while shopping for your first bra? Let us know in the comment section below.

Oh, I was an early bloomer too. I can answer this!
Yes.
Ignore the normal bra type. At 9 years old, the last thing she needs is a padded bra or something made to show off cleavage.
I’d suggest that you get either a training bra or a sports bra for her, depending on how developed she is.
I started developing at a very young age. I was seven when running or jumping rope started to hurt.
Bras aren't just for decency.
If she's developing as fast as you say she is she needs something to hold them in place while she plays, otherwise playing will start to hurt and she'll stop wanting to play.
Get her some training or sports bras.
Wearing a bra is a matter of body size, shape and firmness and not a function of age.
If she needs a bra, then let her wear one. You wouldn’t make a flat-chested 15 year old wear a bra if she doesn’t need one so don’t make a well-developed 9 year old go without one if she does need it.
To do otherwise might give her back problems later on in life and might also give her problems with self-esteem and body-image issues. The choice to wear or not wear a bra should be hers, not yours.
As her parent, it is your responsibility to take your daughter out shopping and have her properly fitted for a bra. Little girls are maturing earlier than they used to probably because of the hormones in meat and the chemicals in plastics that mimic estrogen. It is not uncommon that some of her classmates will be wearing starter bras at 9. It is your job to prepare her for those body changes that are occuring and to educate her about Menstruation that may soon follow.
Bra doesn't come with age tag…. Its is just to support the breast as and when it required… so doesn't matter your daughter is of just 9 years old or 15… if she has developed that much…. You should go for a bra which make her comfortable while playing.. while sitting class or anywhere…. A sports bra will wo that at early age…
Buy her one of those nice stretchy sports bras that fit nice and snug across the chest. It will hold her in nicely and it will be comfortable as well.
There is no need to convince her, you are her mom, and this is now a part of her daily dressing routine, the same as wearing underpants and socks. She will understand.
This sports bra will be easier for a child, since she won’t have to fuss with adjusting the band clasp or the strap tighteners. Much more practical for a little girl.
