How do u call ur crush?

Hot dating tip alert: Using a nickname is the easiest way to flirt with someone. I don’t care if it’s with a partner you’ve been dating for five years or a Starbucks barista, for whatever reason, there’s something incredibly sexy about being called by a nickname.

If I had to guess, I'd say it’s maybe because they tend to be super personal and intimate. Or maybe it’s because they insinuate that someone is special enough to be called by a shortening of their name. Whatever the case, I think we all agree that nicknames should be used a helluva lot more than they are.

But that said, you can’t just go around giving everyone the same nickname. There’s an art that comes with assigning nicknames to those closest to you. And like most things, it does require thought and creative juices.

So while it’s easy to just “baby” this and “baby” that, nicknames can be a way to define the relationship you have. You know, like, set the tone. They must be special.

For that reason, we’ve curated a list of the best things to call that one Special Person in your life. Get your notes tab out because you'll 100 percent want to jot some of these down, my friend.

Things to call your partner

  1. Lovely. It'll do with or without a British accent.

  2. Boo. *cue Usher voice*

  3. Booboo Bear. This is for when you just start being nauseatingly in love (IYKYK).

  4. Honey Pot. Aww, and you’re his Winnie the Pooh.

  5. Sugarplum. Because your man is sweet like candy?

  6. Sweetie. Short and simple.

  7. Sweetheart. Because being with him feels like Valentine’s Day every day.

  8. Baby Boy (or girl). If Beyoncé can call her man this, so can you.

  9. Baby Love. For when you’re in an endearing mood.

  10. Boo Thang. Loving your man ’90s style.

  11. Cupcake. Who doesn’t love being compared to a tasty dessert?

  12. McDreamy. Oh, you’re def trying to study his anatomy.

  13. Honey Bun. If he’s sweet to the very core.

  14. Love Bug. This will make him speeeeechless.

  15. Muffin. Baked foods seem to be a common theme here and I don’t hate it.

Names to call your sex bud

  1. Baby. Just because you’re casually having sex doesn’t mean you can’t call him “baby.”

  2. Sweet Cheeks. (Not the ones on his face.)

  3. Bro. For the guy you high-five after sex.

  4. Dude. Nothing says “keeping it casual” like calling your fuck buddy “Dude.”

  5. Baby Cakes. Don’t know what this means, but it sounds sexual, so.

  6. Boy Toy. This is both a nickname and a label.

  7. Sexy. Classic but effective.

  8. Hottie. Again, classic but effective.

  9. Doll Face. Let him know he’s a fine lil thing.

  10. Hercules. If he’s *extra* strong.

  11. Hot Cakes. For when you want all the frosting.

  12. Big Guy. Make your man who’s not your man feel real manly.

  13. Playboy. And you’re ready to be his bunny.

Names to call your fiancé

  1. Hubby. Just a cute lil thing to call your husband (or husband-to-be).

  2. Wifey... Just a cute lil thing to call your wife (or wife-to-be).

  3. Mister. Make it old-school.

  4. Bubba. Sometimes nicknames are just sounds that sound cutesy.

  5. Booby. Calling someone a boob: rude. Calling them “Booby”: romantic.

  6. Captain. Yes, you’re both on the relationSHIP.

  7. Boo Boo. Two “boo”s…powerful.

  8. Love Dove. And if he’s a bird, you’re a bird.

  9. Honey. I’d love to be called what is essentially sweet nectar goodness.

  10. Honey Pie. Put these sweet words together to really send a message of what you think of your man.

  11. Love. Probs what you're feeling anyway.

What to call the person you’re *sort of* talking to

  1. Tinder Babe. TBH, this might be what you have him saved as on your phone.

  2. Pal. When it’s not that serious and you don’t want to scare him away.

  3. Babe. If you’re not quite ready to transition to “baby” yet.

  4. Babes. Make it sound like you’re on an episode of Love Island.

  5. Baby Boo. He’s not your baby or your boo yet, but he can still be your Baby Boo.

  6. Cutie. Perfect for someone who’s a crush but not quite more yet.

  7. Lover Boy. This is both playful and hinting at the potential of something more.

  8. Cutie Pie. Letting them know they’re cute AND sweet like pie—the perfect combo.

  9. A shortening of their name. So if their name is Taylor, call them "Tay."

  10. The first letter of their name. So if their name is Derrick, call them "D."

  11. Foot fairy. (If they love soccer.)

  5. Zaddy. He’s not just a daddy, he’s a zaddy.

  6. Papa Bear. And you’re no Goldilocks—his bed is just right for you.

  7. Handsome. Hey, men like compliments too.

Things to call the mother of your child
