Movies that push a real-world conspiracy theory

Sometimes, a movie's creators will insert a real-world conspiracy theory into the narrative, either because the creators genuinely believe in it and want to push it, or because they think it will get the movie more attention. For example, there were several movies made after the Vietnam War, most notably Rambo: First Blood Part II and Missing in Action, that pushed the then-popular idea that Vietnam had secretly kept American POWs after the war ended instead of returning them all like they claimed because reasons, and the American government knew about it and was covering it up because reasons, which is why it was up to the badass patriot protagonist to go save our boys and expose the truth. The conspiracy theory has since been thoroughly discredited after ample investigation for decades found no evidence of any remaining American prisoners, so few take it seriously anymore, but it used to be a big deal, it's where the POW/MIA flags you see on government buildings come from. But one of the most infamous cases of this is probably Oliver Stone's JFK, where Stone lays out his theories on the Kennedy assassination, except he gets several key historical facts wrong, kind of undermining his argument. What other real-world conspiracy theories have you seen in a movie? via /r/movies https://ift.tt/xZf5IAP
