Sometimes, a movie's creators will insert a real-world conspiracy theory into the narrative, either because the creators genuinely believe in it and want to push it, or because they think it will get the movie more attention.For example, there were several movies made after the Vietnam War, most notably Rambo: First Blood Part II and Missing in Action, that pushed the then-popular idea that Vietnam had secretly kept American POWs after the war ended instead of returning them all like they claimed because reasons, and the American government knew about it and was covering it up because reasons, which is why it was up to the badass patriot protagonist to go save our boys and expose the truth.
