NOPE (2022) reminded me how much i love a good alien encounter movie.

I watched NOPE late last night (coincidentally on Jordan Peele's birthday) and i realised how much i've missed good ol' close encounter movies. There's just something about aliens that i find very scary when done well. Close Encounters of the Third Kind was scary enough to make me switch channels as a teen. Signs gave me nightmares for days. Aliens as a theme have great potential in horror, but they've unfortunately been watered down because of all the mediocre and/or action packed b-movie shit. Well, NOPE definitely scratched my itch...for like an hour.Even though i enjoyed it, i couldn't help but feel like it was trying to be two different things kind of awkwardly joined in the middle. The first half of it is a classic alien encounter movie. Strange stuff happen to normal people living in a rural area. It's scary and tense and mysterious. Then the second half is...kinda like Jaws...with aliens? Don't get me wrong, i liked this movie...both parts of it, i just thought that the transition between the two styles could have been handled better. The protagonist, OJ, just knew what they were dealing with, somehow? A single animal shaped like a flying saucer that feeds on live stuff? How did he deduce all that? It feels like they had no better way to move the story forward, so they just went with it.Overall i did enjoy the movie, i just wish it was as scary and tense for its entire duration, as it was during the first half. I feel like not enough people talk about it and that's a shame.Feel free to recommend any good Alien movies. via /r/movies https://ift.tt/NgqnF5O
