The breakfast club - Can anyone explain the weird ending?

Great movie and I really enjoyed it until the end when suddenly everyone breaks character. For some reason Claire gives Alison a make over and Alison is fine with it even though it seems absolutely counter to her character who had shown zero sign of being interested in anything to do with dressing up, and then she kisses Andrew even though there is zero interest from either of them in each other throughout the movie. Also why even do a make over scene in this movie, surely the point of the movie was showing that everyone has problems and issues and we shouldn't just judge people on face value? And if one is to be done why do it on the only person in the group that does not conform to any stereotypical genre!?And for no reason at all and even counter to the narrative we've seen so far Clare seeks out Bender and kisses him. The one person that has absolutely destroyed her at every opportunity made her cry, degrades her and even suggests at the beginning of the movie they close the door and rape her... Oh and sexually assaults her while he's hiding under her table. She opens up to the group and he just tears her apart and writes off her issues and just a spoilt rich girl...Andrew is the one person that actually stands up for her and protects her and he likes her. Yet she goes for the other guy because he has shown her utter disgust and contempt and made her feel unsafe? The film is critically acclaimed and loved but I find the ending kind of trashy? It felt like a let's make the girls kiss the boys for the happily ever after moment... And we need to change this girl appearance as she couldn't possibly kiss the jock looking like that...Edit: just to add I think the film is great I'm not shitting on the film, I just don't like the ending. via /r/movies https://ift.tt/SLdTfMQ
