Should I give Bittrex my SSN?

 As the premier US-based blockchain technology and cryptocurrency exchange, Bittrex is required by law to collect your SSN/SIN to comply with the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) regulations.  

Beginning January 14, 2020 this information was required when logging into Bittrex.com.

 

What regulation requires this?  

This information is required by the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) regulations. Specifically, the legal requirement states, “a record of the person’s taxpayer identification number (e.g., social security or employer identification number) or, if none, alien identification number or passport number and country of issuance, or a notation in the record of the lack thereof.” – 31 CFR 1010.11(p). 

 

Do other exchanges require this information?  

Yes. All of the US exchanges require this information.
