We have covered all eye shapes, don’t worry if you are unsure which you have because we have put together a check list under each eye shape to ensure you understand which shape is yours.
These are a few things a person can understand about you by just looking at your eyes based on Chinese face reading. To have a more accurate reading you will need to keep in mind other facial features such as the lips, cheeks and chin etc. It’s important you base the readings of your eye shape of what your eyes look like prior to makeup. Almond Eyes
What Are Almond Shaped Eyes?
Almond shaped eyes tend to be an oval shape with narrow corners, making them longer in width than they are round. Almond eyes tend to also be super symmetrical. Some people with almond eyes may notice their outside corners of their eyes may turn up slightly. Picture the shape of an almond, if your eyes are a similar shape you’ve got almond eyes!
How do I know I have Almond Eyes?
- With almond shaped eyes, the outer part of your iris is usually hidden under your top and bottom lids.
- You have a visible crease in your eyelid – unlike those with round eyes.

Almond-shaped eyes have upswept corners and like they are called, almond in shape. Those that have almond eyes are often passionate, loyal by nature and therefore make a great partner or friend. Round eyes are just as it sounds… your eyes are round. However, many people mistake their almond shaped eyes for being round. You can check to see if your eye shape is really round below. Round eyes also tend to be shorter in length than other eye shapes such as oval or almond shaped eyes.
How Do I Know If I Have Round Eyes?
- Look straight ahead at a mirror, if you can see any white around the top and bottom of your iris (the coloured part) you have round eyes. There does not need to be a large white space around the iris, even if you can only see the smallest area of white around the top and bottom of your iris this still counts and you have round eyes.
- If you can’t see any white around your iris then you more than likely have almond shaped eyes.

The crease of your eye folds over the outer corner, making your upper eyelid look smaller. It can sometimes make your eye look down turned or droopy. Hooded eyes usually make your eyelid look smaller.

- If you are wearing eye liner and can’t see the liner when your eyes are open, you have hooded eyes. This is because the crease of your eye folds and covers the liner.

Monolid Eyes
What Are Monolid Eyes?
A monolid is an eyelid shape that doesn’t have a crease or an obvious crease. Eyes that have a visible crease are known as a double eyelid, almond eyes are an example.
What is the difference between Monolids and hooded eyes?
- Hooded eyes usually have a sagging brow bone, which sits on top of the lid, creating a floppier crease in the eyelid.
- Both hooded eyes and monolid eyes have lids that are not easily visible while the eye is open. The difference is, monolid eyes tend to protrude with no crease whereas hooded eyes crease much more and don’t have much depth.

Downward-Slanting / Down Turned Eyes
What are down turned eyes?
Downturned eyes are usually almond-shaped, with a downward tilt at the outer corners. This angle tends to make the upper eyelid appear longer than the lower lid. With the right pair of false eyelashes, you can emphasize this gorgeous eye shape and make your gaze look more open and bright.
How Do I Know If I Have Down Turned Eyes?
A common misconception is those with almond shaped eyes thinking they have town turned eyes.
- To check if you have almond eyes – you have a visible crease in your eyelid (unlike those with round shaped eyes). Your iris will touch both your bottom and top eyelid.
- To check you have downturned eyes – the outer corners of your eyes turn down wards. If you are struggling to decide if you have downturned eyes, grab a mirror and imagine a straight line going from your nose, through your pupil and to the side of your face. If the corners of your eyes tilt down wards, you have down turned eyes. If the corners are straight you have almond eyes. If your outer corner of your eye tilts upwards, you have up turned eyes!

Those with downward slanting eyes tend to be very dependent on their close ones. They have a pessimistic streak, which often makes it difficult for them to take any decision themselves. Upwards-Slanting / Upturned Eyes
What Are Upturned Eyes?
Upturned eyes are a quite common eye shape. They are very similar to almond-shaped eyes, they are oval in shape but have a natural upward lift at the outer edges. The lower lid is more prominent, appearing much longer than the top lid.
How Do I Know If I Have Upturned Eyes?
- Grab a mirror and look directly at it. Imagine a straight line going directly from the top of your nose, though your pupil and towards your temple.
- If the outer corners of your eyes are above the line, you have upturned eyes.
- If the corners are below it, you have downturned eyes.
- Next, check to see if your eyelid crease is visible or hidden when your eyes are open. If the crease is hidden, you have hooded eyes.

Deep Set Eyes
What Are Deep Set Eyes?
Deep set eyes look larger and are set deeper in the eye socket. This creates the illusion of a more prominent brow bone. With the eyes set back, the brow bone appears to overshadow the eyes. As a result, the eyes may look small. However, with the right pair of lashes, you can create the illusion that your eyes are twice the size they are!
How to know if you have Deep Set Eyes:
- Grab a mirror and look at your eyes from the side. You will be able to tell if you have deep set eyes as you will notice the brow bone sticks out whilst your eyes are set deeper than other eye shapes.
- Stick your pointer finger up, place it against your eye, with the top part of your finger resting against your brow bone, and the lower part resting against your cheekbone. Close your eyes. Does your eye touch your finger? If not, your eyes are definitely deep-set.

Close set eyes are usually less than one eye width apart.
How Do I Know If I Have Close Set Eyes?
- Grab a mirror, check to see if the space between your eyes is less or more than one eye length is size.
- If you have a small gap between your eyes (less than one eye length in size) you have close set eyes.
- If you have a larger gap between your eyes (more than one eye length in size) between your eyes, then you have wide set eyes.
- If the space between your eyes is roughly the same eye length in size, then you have an average spaced eyes.

What Are Prominent Eyes?
Your eyes sit in a relatively shallow position in your eye socket.
How Do I Know If I Have Prominent Eyes
Close your eyes and rest index finger against your eye socket with the top side of your finger resting against your eyebrow and the lower part of your finger resting against your cheek bone. If you can prominently feel your eye against your finger, you more than likely have prominent eyes!
Check out your lower eyelid, does it cast a shadow onto your cheek? Does your upper eyelid more like a fold and not hooded at all? If the answer is yes, you have prominent eyes.
