Which FACE SHAPE looks BEST?
Depends.
in books the old ideal was an oval face because it was “evenly proportioned” which doesn't make much sense since mathematically a circle is more evenly proportioned than an oval. When I think an oval face I automatically imagine Drew Barrymore and Katherine Heigl.
Notice how their forehead width, cheekbone width and jaw width are quite equal with a tapered jaw but the overal length of the face is longer than the overall width.
Now, in fashion a square face seems more ideal especially with men a lot of the models have a square face which contributes to the notion that models have “"razor sharp cheekbones”
square faces: forehead width, cheekbones width, jawline width are about the same or all the same, the chin and jawline is flat and the height is either equal to or about the same measurement as the overall width of the face
now, in Korea the ideal is an oval face with a pointed chin.
in the US I believe there was a survey as to what face shape looked prettiest and it turned out that most found a heart shaped face to be better looking which is quite different from the ideal in books and in fashion.
Heartshaped face: the widest part of the face is the forehead width, the cheekbones are the second widest part and the jaw width is the least widest part with a tapered jawline and a pointed chin. this also describes an inverted triangle shape BUT the only difference between an inverted triangle and a heart shaped face is that a heart shaped face has a widows peak which gives it that heart outline
You can see how her hairline gives it more of that heart shape but this second photo you can see the width and everything better
PERSONALLY I think a diamond face shape, round or some square faces are my faves. I like that a diamond face shape has such nice cheekbones even when face-front because a diamond face shape: cheekbones are the widest part of the face and the forehead width and jaw width are the smallest, have a tapered jaw, rounded or pointed chin. It's an angular face but still very feminine.
Notice how her cheekbones are the widest part of her face and the width of her forehead tapers or gets more narrow upward and her jaw tapers downward giving that diamond shape look. It's an angular look but still very feminine
I like round faces cause they look very youthful and tend to help the face look younger longer. Generally we all start out with round faces when we are younger so it makes sense that it's associated with youth.
round face: forehead width, cheekbone width, jaw width are about the same and the length of the face is close to the measurement of the width with a rounded or sometimes flat chin. Normally the jawline is a little more tapered and not as flat and angular as a square face
I Ike square faces because they have such a sharp jawline and can have nice defined cheekbones while still having a short petite face with a short chin that can still retain a youthful look. Makeup wise a square face can be made to look more round and youthful or more sharp and angular quite easily IMO.
