PROTRUDING EYES - What is my eye shape?
What Are the Different Eye Shapes and Why Do They Matter?
Hey there! We have a question for you....
Do you know your eye shape?
This might seem like a silly question, but you would be surprised how many people actually don't know their correct eye shape! If you are reading this and do not know what yours is...not to worry, we are here to help!
But before we get into all that, let’s start with why it’s important to know your eye shape.
Why Does Eye Shape Matter?
We get this question a lot.
“What are the different types of eye shapes? What is my eye shape? Why is it important for me to know my eye shape? I have asian eyes, what lash style would look best on me?”
Eye shape is extremely helpful to know when it comes to applying makeup.
Once you know what your natural eye shape is you can then learn the proper application and techniques that will be the most flattering for you!
And you know what else??
It will also help determine which lashes will look best to really accentuate your natural beauty!
While there is a lash for everyone, that doesn’t always mean that every lash is suitable for every eye shape.
Depending on the shape of the false lashes, your makeup look can dramatically enhance the shape of your eye and unfortunately...it can do the opposite as well.
Just like knowing your waist size when it comes to trying on that new dress you just bought, it’s important to know the proper shape of your eye when dressing them with lashes!
So without further ado, let’s begin!
The Six Most Common Eye Shapes
We went ahead and outlined the six most common eye shape categories that people fit into.
And in case you are wondering, yes, it is possible to have more than one eye shape.
While this can get a little tricky, we assure you, knowing your eye shape will make things a whole lot easier in the long run…
...AND you will be able to choose more lash styles that flatter your eye!
Eye Shape #1 - Almond Eyes
Almond eyes are considered the most ideal eye shape because you can pretty much pull off any eyeshadow look.
And believe me, this is a huge plus!
Almond eyes have an oval shape with a slightly upturned outer corner.
In addition to being able to pull off stunning eyeshadow looks, almond eyes lend themselves perfectly to just about any lash style (lucky you)!
Yep, just about every lash style will be flattering on almond eyes. Your choice of lash style will be decided by what you feel the most confident wearing. ;)
We suggest: Smokey Muse and Iconic
Eye Shape #2 - Prominent Eyes
Prominent eyes give the appearance of projected lids.
Any makeup look on this eye shape will be very visible since the eyelids will appear more in the forefront.
This creates more of a shelf for your lashes to sit on.
Prominent eye shapes can make even the lightest falsies appear much larger or dramatic than the lash actually is.
And in the same fashion, dramatic lashes can look less intense because the eye and lash are sharing the spotlight.
We suggest: Lavish Noir and Demure Lite
Eye Shape #3 - Hooded Eyes
Hooded eyes tend to have a heavier lid.
The heavier lid tends to give the illusion of a smaller crease leaving less room for makeup looks and lashes.
But not to worry, there are plenty of lashes and makeup looks for everyone, regardless of their eye shape!
For those with hooded eyes, it’s important to pick a lash that has a dense base. The dense base combats the lid without getting covered up like lashes with a lighter base.
These lashes will really enhance your eye allowing for all sorts of admiration to flow your way!
We suggest: Natalia and Boudoir
Eye Shape #4 - Monolid Eyes
Monolid eyes tend to have little to no crease.
The eye doesn’t sit as far back as other eye shapes so the brow is less prominent. This creates a smooth surface for makeup and lashes.
The popular makeup trend “cut crease” is perfect for this kind of eye shape.
Often times, people with monolids love the creativity that makeup allows them to have on the eye space.
More dramatic lashes look best on monolids because it gives the eye some dimension without overpowering the eye’s appearance.
We suggest: Noir Fairy and Starlet
Eye Shape #5 - Deep Set Eyes
Deep Set eyes are larger and deeper set into the eye socket, creating the illusion of a more prominent brow bone.
Since the eyes sit further back, you’ll want to make sure the lashes you choose have enough volume to be seen, but not too much to where it touches your brows.
A wispy or medium density lash will look best on the deep set eye shape.
Deep Set can be a little tricky, so make sure you try out different ones and see which ones you like best.
We suggest: Iconic Lite and Mon Cheri
Eye Shape #6 - Downturned Eyes
Downturned eyes point down in the outer corners of the eye.
They typically have a more rounded shape on the bottom lash line.
When applying makeup and lashes, our recommendation is to keep the attention higher on the eyes and face.
With the outer corners downturned, you’ll want to make sure the lashes have a round shape to give the illusion of a lift. Otherwise the eyes can appear tired, especially if the lash extends too much.
We suggest: Boudoir Lite and Temptress Wispy
