hugging can be the gateway to something else or not. the placement of hands may determine the direction of things. sometimes a question is asked ‘may i kiss you?’ a hug can be a good indicator of what the parties are thinking. a long, tight hug indicates to me ‘i trust you, you mean something to me’ a light casual hug is like a handshake for women. the side hug is like ‘hey bud, how ya doin?’ i used one of my best lines during a hug and enjoyed the end result. but that line has only worked once. a course a guy/girl can get turned on. duh. its an opportunity to be close to someone which you find attractive. its less complicated to pull off than a straight up smooch. you get the chance to touch the other person in similar ways that would you touch them if you were intimate. how the other person smells, yeah sounds weird when you think of it, but how a man/woman smells during that close contact of a hug tells the brain and senses ‘this is a good one or run away fast’
There is something magical about skin to skin contact. There is also something magical about hugging the woman you love. I can wrap my arms around her, breathe in her scent, feel the weight of her against me and if I just absorb all the feelings that wash over me I find myself getting aroused. It’s much like the feeling sports people have when they’re ‘In the zone’. It’s unconscious and the moment you realise it’s happening you leave ‘the zone’ and the moment becomes something else.
I think it’s just how we’re made. Our bodies take over till our minds can catch up. It’s primal, animal instinct at it most basic.
Not any more than girls get turned on by hugging a guy they like.
Which is to say, I suppose it could happen in a given situation, but at least for me that’d have to be a romantic or erotic situation, not simply a casual hug between friends or people who care about each other.
A hug from someone I like feels good, and can make me feel loved and appreciated, but it’s not a sexual type of intimacy.
Of course if you’re 15 and have hormones up to the ears, then you might well get turned on just from being within 50 feet of the person you have a crush on; and in that case I suppose it’s likely a hug would have the same effect. But that’s more about being a hormonal teenager than it is about hugs as such.
