Best Dirt Bike Helmets Under $100

A dirt bike helmet is definitely the most important piece of gear to procure before attempting any dirt bike riding. While the best quality helmets are usually expensive, it’s better to have a cheaper helmet than no helmet at all. Here are seven of the best dirt bike helmets that are under $100.

  1. O’Neal 2 Series Helmet – Slick
  2. HJC CS-MX 2 Helmet – Solid
  3. Thor Sector Level Helmet
  4. Fly Racing Dirt Kinetic Burnish Helmet
  5. Shot Race Gear Furious Ultimate Helmet
  6. EVS Vortek T5 Vector Helmet
  7. AFX FX-17 Helmet

These helmets are considered in this list not only for their lower prices but also for their great protective and comfort qualities and their other great features.

1. O’Neal 2 Series Helmet – Slick

O’Neal is a great dirt bike gear company that has been producing quality dirt bike helmets for over fifty years! The new 2020 O’Neal 2 Series Slick Helmet is a great example of the power that your dollar can bring. If you’re interested in this helmet, you can find it on Amazon here.

Price:

The O’Neal 2020 2 Series Slick Helmet costs around $100. This helmet is at the top of the list, being the most expensive, but it offers some amazing quality for its great price.

But I would definitely advise you to look out for those awesome deals on the market that knock down the price of this great helmet even more.

Protection:

The protective qualities of a helmet are key to making it worth the purchase, and the O’Neal 2 Series Slick Helmet does not disappoint in this category.

With a polycarbonate and ABS shell, this helmet is lightweight and strong, ensuring that your head receives the protection that it needs to minimize the damage of a crash.

This helmet has also met DOT and ECE 22.05 certifications, which is a big deal that adds to this helmet’s credibility in the protection department of dirt bike quality.

Comfort:

Have you ever worn a helmet with terrible padding and was in many other ways uncomfortable? One of the great aspects of this helmet is the measures that have been taken by O’Neal to ensure that you are comfortable while out riding.

This helmet includes plush padding that is removable and washable. Besides being comfortable on the head, the latter feature of the padding is particularly nice.

When you come home after a hot, long ride, you can easily remove the padding, throw it in the washer, and set it out to dry; therefore, your helmet’s padding will not only be ready for your next ride, but it will also smell great! No more musky, stinky helmet stench!

Along with the comfortable padding, this helmet also comes with great ventilation that will aid in cooling you off and keeping you dry while on the trails or race track.

Other Features:

Some other great features on this helmet aid in its durability and convenience for you.

The O’Neal 2 Series Slick Helmet has awesome clear coated graphics that are extremely durable and less likely to get super scratched up from every tree branch, impact, or normal wear and tear.

The helmet also includes an adjustable visor design. So, no matter the time of day, you can adjust the visor where you need it, making the whole ride more comfortable for you as well as making it longer-lasting.

2. HJC CS-MX 2 Helmet – Solid

HJC is a great dirt bike gear company with some competitive helmets hitting the market. This helmet, the CS-MX 2 Solid Helmet, has some great features for a great price and is definitely worth looking into. If you’re interested in this helmet, you can find it on Amazon here.

Price:

This helmet from HJC has a price of around $85-$90 depending on the size you get. If the helmet size you’re looking for is in the XLs, just expect to pay the higher end of this price range due to the extra materials used for the helmet.

Also, if you’re looking into getting this helmet with graphics, that can also hike up the price a little more. It’s up to your and your preference, but just keep that in mind.

Protection:

The biggest protective feature for the HJC CS-MS 2 Solid Helmet is its composition. The helmet’s shell is made of an advanced polycarbonate composite that is super lightweight, making the helmet about 2.8 pounds altogether, and also strong against impact.

The helmet is altogether DOT approved, which is not always easy to meet. This gives a great clue as to the helmet’s protective qualities since HJC has to make it up to DOT’s standards.

Comfort:

This helmet has some amazing comfort features that are truly impressive. Besides the helmet’s overall lightweight, which makes it less of a burden on your head while out riding, this HJC helmet has stellar ventilation and cush padding.

This helmet includes ACS Advanced Channeling Ventilation System. This system takes advantage of the grooves in the EPS structure of the helmet by using these channels to transport fresh air through the helmet, cooling you off, and out through the exhaust vents, carrying heat and humidity with it.

The HJC CS-MX 2 Solid Helmet also features a comfortable Nylex interior. This material’s added to this helmet to aid in moisture-wicking and comfort while riding. The padding is also removable and washable, keeping the inside of your helmet smelling fresh.

Other Features:

Another great feature to consider about this helmet is the large eye-port, which is a great asset for you while riding. Wide eye-ports fit most goggle sizes and also aid in the overall vision available while riding.

3. Thor Sector Level Helmet

Thor is not only a Marvel superhero but also an awesome dirt bike gear company with excellent quality products; although, you could definitely compare the strength and reliability of their products to the superhero himself. You can check out this helmet at many retailers, including motosport.com.

Thor Sector Level Helmet is a great example of a strong, quality helmet that’s sure to save the day in the event of an impact.

Price:

The Thor Sector Level helmet comes in at a retail price of about $110. The reason I include it in this list is that it is often on sale for as cheap at $75 on various online websites. So, I would advise that before you make the final purchase, you should look around to see if you can find this helmet at a cheaper price.

Protection:

There are two major protective features that make this helmet super strong and protective for your head.

First off, the helmet’s composition includes an injection-molded polycarbonate and ABS shell. These materials combined created a super lightweight helmet that’s also incredibly strong.

Second, the Thor Sector Level Helmet also features a dual-density EPS liner. This is a fantastic protective feature that aids in impact energy absorption. One of the biggest problems with crashes, even if you don’t get terribly scraped up, is that your head takes quite a beating on the inside because of the impact’s force.

But the dual-density EPS liner is great protection against this as it helps absorb most of the harmful energy; therefore, most of this energy affects the helmet instead of your head.

The Thor Sector Level Helmet is also DOT and ECE 22.05 approved.

Comfort:

Besides the awesome protection this the Thor Sector Level Helmet has to offer, this helmet has some great comfort features that are sure to make any rider happy.

One of the biggest comfort features for this helmet form Thor is the ventilation system. This system includes internal air passages throughout the helmet’s EPS lining that helps to carry air throughout the helmet to cool you off and then to carry the hot air out through the exhaust vents.

The helmet also includes an excellent hi-flow mouth vent with a filter. This allows you to get plenty of air for breathing while out on the trails or track. Accompanied by the helmet’s flexible rubber nose piece, the filtered hi-flow mouth vent effectively blocks roost.

Other Features:

Along with these protective and comfort aspects, the Thor Sector Level Helmet has some other great features worth mentioning.

The helmet itself is molded to have a minor indentation in the back of the helmet in order to secure your goggles’ strap. This is a great feature because it ensures that you don’t have to worry about your goggles slipping off while your riding.

Another great feature is fully adjustable visor that you can move as you need throughout your ride, morning, mid-day, or night.

4. Fly Racing Dirt Kinetic Burnish Helmet

Fly Racing is one of the best and most affordable dirt bike gear companies in the market. This company is constantly coming out with new products so it’s not uncommon to find their helmets on sale at a store to make room for the new shipments. The Fly Racing Dirt Kinetic Burnish Helmet has got he stellar price while also maintaining excellent quality.

Price:

The Fly Racing Dirt Kinetic Burnish Helmet originally comes at an already reasonable price but is often on sale at different online stores. This helmet can be found priced between about $80-$110 from lowest to highest. If you’re interested in this helmet, you can find it on Amazon here.

Protection:

This helmet from Fly Racing has some awesome safety features that are impressive for such an economically priced dirt bike helmet.

The helmet shell is made of poly-alloy that is a super lightweight yet strong material. The material is also very durable, which is a great asset for hard dirt bike riding.

The helmet also includes dual-density EPS lining, which is a fantastic safety feature seen in many more expensive dirt bike helmets. The main idea between this dual-density lining is that one layer is softer, and the other is harder. These two densities aid in helping more effectively absorb the impact energy in crashes.

For further confirming of this helmet’s protective qualities, it is DOT approved.

Comfort:

The Fly Racing Dirt Kinetic Burnish Helmet also has some superior comfort features, including its ventilation system and interior padding.

Along with the hi-flow mouthpiece, the helmet has ten large vents that allow air to pass through the helmet’s EPS channeling and come out through the large exhaust vents. This is an excellent system that effectively cools you off while you’re out riding.

Another great comfort feature is the interior padding of the helmet. The padding is not only comfortable, but it is also removable and washable; therefore, you can keep your helmet smelling great and increase its durability by washing up the materials. The padding is also very easy to put back into the helmet with the Fly “Quick Snap” system.

Other Features:

Another great feature included with this helmet is the rubber trim and the integrated nose guard. The trim aids in helping your goggles stay in place and the nose guard is an effective shield against much of the roost that comes your way while you are out riding.

5. Shot Race Gear Furious Ultimate Helmet

Shot Race Gear is a company that produces great quality helmets and supplies them in many countries around the world, including in the United States, Chile, Australia, Japan, and the United Kingdom. The Shot Race Gear Furious Ultimate Helmet is just an example of the great quality helmets produced by this company.

Price:

Although the helmet technically has a retail price of around $110, you can find this helmet on sale at various websites for around $85-$90. This helmet offers great features for a reasonable price.

Protection:

The major protective features of this DOT and ECE 22.05 certified helmet are included in the helmet’s overall construction.

First off, the helmet shell is made of a tri-composite material consisting of Carbon/Kevlar/Fiber. These materials combined, although cheaper, are exceedingly strong and contribute to the helmet’s lightweight.

The helmet also features a shock-absorbing chin guard insert. This aids in protecting your jaw and head in general during a crash as the insert helps absorb much of the impact energy instead of having the lot of it hit your head and cause more damage.

Comfort:

The Shot Race Gear Furious Ultimate Helmet also comes with some great comfort features that are sure to please a variety of riders.

The helmet shell comes in three different sizes to ensure that you get the right size for you that is neither too small or too big. What goes on in the inside of the helmet is a major influencer of overall comfort.

The helmet also features “morpho conforming” interior lining, which is comfortable and conforms to the rider’s head for a superior fit. The lining is also removable and washable. Besides being convenient, this feature also helps keep your helmet durable and smelling great.

The helmet also has a great ventilation system. It includes six intake vents and four exhaust vents for plenty of airflow to come in. The air then helps cool you off and then takes the heat and moisture out with it.

Other Features:

Some other great features included in this helmet include the helmet’s polyurethane (PU) finish on outer shell and graphics. This finish increases your helmet’s durability and keeps it looking good despite the harsh environment of dirt biking.

The helmet also includes a removable mouth vent for easy cleaning, and it is also neck brace ready for rider’s who desire such equipment while riding.

6. EVS Vortek T5 Vector Helmet

EVS is a great dirt bike gear company with some competitive items hitting the market. The EVS Vortek T5 Vector Helmet is definitely a helmet worth looking into on a search for a good-quality, economical dirt bike helmet.

Price:

This helmet is normally retailed at about $99, but I’ve seen this item on sale at a lot of online dirt bike gear stores. Keep an eye out for some super deals, because you don’t want to miss out on a great deal for this great helmet.

Protection:

The EVS Vortek T5 Vector Helmet has most of its protection in the helmet’s basic construction.

The helmet shell is made of polycarbonate, which is a super lightweight material that is incredibly strong. This is a great asset to the helmet for helping keep the rider’s head safe without carrying around a heavy burden that other helmets can bring.

The helmet also includes an EPS liner. This material helps absorb much of the impact energy that comes during a crash; therefore, it protects your head from excessive damage that might occur otherwise.

The helmet is altogether DOT and ECE certified, which definitely add confidence about this helmet’s protective capabilities.

Comfort:

The helmet’s lining and ventilation system plays a huge part in the comfort that the helmet offers.

The interior of the helmet is lined with a moisture-wicking lining that does a great job in keeping you dry and cool while out riding in the heat. Don’t worry about your helmet getting a funky stink after a while, though, because the lining is both removable and washable to keep it fresh and clean.

Other Features:

The EVS Vorteck T5 Vector Helmet also includes a RAM cooling system, which increases the helmet’s overall airflow and cooling through its nine large air vents and EPS channels.

7. AFX FX-17 Helmet

AFX is a dirt bike helmet company present in both the United States and Europe. The company has come out with some great dirt bike helmet options, including their entry-level helmet–the AFX FX-17. If you’re interested in this helmet, you can find it on Amazon here.

Price:

This helmet comes at a price between $90-$95. For such a low price, and for being an entry-level helmet, the AFX FX-17 Helmet sports some great features that are more commonly found on more expensive helmets.

Protection:

The largest point of protection going for this helmet from AFX is the helmet’s composition. The shell is made of an advanced poly-alloy plastic that is super strong and very lightweight; therefore, it does a great job at keeping your noggin safe and comfortable while out riding for a long time.

The helmet shell is also designed to be aerodynamic in order to decrease the amount of drag (and thus strain on your neck) while you’re out riding at top speeds.

Rest assured to know that this helmet is DOT and ECE 22.5 certified. It’s important to note, however, that the helmet in sizes 3X and 4X are only DOT certified and not ECE certified.

Comfort:

The main comfort features of this helmet from AFX include the helmet’s superb lining and the helmet’s ventilation system.

The AFX FX-17 Helmet’s lining and cheek pads are both made of a hypo-allergenic and anti-microbial material. These are great assets for keeping the helmet clean and safe, while also being comfortable on sensitive skin.

The lining and cheek pads are also removable and washable to keep your helmet extra clean and fresh. This is an especially great aspect when you come back from a long, sweaty ride on a hot day.

The helmet also includes 11 vents in the chin, sides, forehead top, and rear for excellent ventilation throughout the whole helmet.

Other Features:

The AFX FX-17 Helmet also includes a removable screwed-on, vented visor. This visor is super easy to take off and put back on for your needs whether you’re riding on the streets or out on the track.

The helmet also features google grips on the edges of the eye-port in order to keep your goggles firmly in place while you are riding.

Where Can I Find Cheap Dirt Bike Helmets?

Now that you know a few cheap dirt bike helmets, you might be asking, “Where else can I find cheap dirt bike helmets?” Here are a few great places to consider.

Amazon

Honestly, Amazon is my first go-to online store to find anything at a cheaper price. Generally speaking, you can find several dirt bike helmets from various companies on Amazon.

The great thing about buying these helmets from such a widely used website is that you have access to the ratings of the products to see how other people have found a certain helmet’s quality and fit.

eBay

eBay is another great option when you’re trying to find a good-quality, but cheap, dirt bike helmet. If you’re going this route, I would definitely advise that you take a close look at the item–really investigate its quality and any wear and tear on it.

What to Consider:

It’s also a good idea to ask the seller or previous owner why they are selling it, and also what kinds of crashes they have gotten into while wearing this helmet.

Generally, if a riding has gotten into some pretty gnarly crashes, the helmet they are selling might not be that protective anymore as the EPS lining has likely been crushed; therefore, if you hit your head where the EPS is already crushed, it won’t protect your head that well. Just keep that in mind.

But don’t let this discount eBay altogether. Some people might have bought a helmet, only to find out that it doesn’t fit right. But, for one reason or another, they can’t return it. These people are eager to get some money for the helmet they won’t use and will likely seel it on sights like eBay.

Also, some people might have bought a helmet to try out dirt biking, but then they discover that it’s not really their thing; therefore, their helmet will likely be very lightly used.

Altogether, look at the quality of the helmet as well as how roughly it’s been used.

Stores (Online or Not)

Stores are a great way to find a dirt bike helmet, and they often have some great sales going on. This is especially true when stores are getting the next year’s version of helmets on their shelves since they will be eager to sell the previous year’s models to make way for the new ones.

Of course, I always recommend actually going into the store to try on the helmet for yourself to ensure you get the right size. But, if going to the store’s physical location is not possible, many stores have great return policies if you need to exchange for a different size.

Here are a few great online gear websites that usually have great sales:

  • Revzilla.com
  • RockyMountainATVMC.com
  • CycleGear.com
  • BTOSports.com

MotocycleCloseouts.com is also a great site to check out when trying to find good-quality, cheap dirt bike helmets. While you should definitely make sure you’re helmet is of good quality to protect your head, remember that a cheaper helmet is better than no helmet. Best of luck in your search!
