Brand new Class A and Class C motorhomes are expensive. It makes sense that a company would want to guarantee its product’s reliability and offer to fix manufacturing defects for at least a few years.
Most major motorhome manufacturers like Newmar and Tiffin have limited warranties on new motorhomes. Thor Motor Coach, however, has set the new gold standard for all its 2021 Class A and Class C models. Their industry-leading warranty covers delamination for 6 years and structural defects for 12 years, in addition to their standard 1-year limited warranty.
The best RV structural warranty
Many motorhomes use a lamination process to make the walls of the coach. The outer fiberglass, wooden substrate, insulation, and the inner wall of the RV are laminated or bonded together using a couple of different processes. Sometimes the bond fails after purchase, causing the outer layer to pull away from the substrate. It can look like a wave or bubble underneath the outer wall of the rig.
What makes Thor’s new warranty so special is the fact that currently most manufacturers only have structural warranties up to three years and provide no extended coverage for delamination.
Taking a look at other major companies, Tiffin stacks up close. They have a 5 year or 50,000-mile limited warranty for delamination, compared to Thor’s 6-year warranty. They also fall short of Thor’s 12-year structural warranty with their 10 years or 50,000 miles of structural coverage.
Newmar stands by their hung wall construction, which doesn’t use a lamination process. Even without the possibility of delamination, Newmar’s structural integrity warranty is for 5 years, making them fall 7 years short of Thor.
Having an extended and extensive warranty is a sure sign that a company stands behind the product they are making. Thor seems to know that those looking to buy need to feel confident in the brands they purchase. Their new warranty may not only turn the heads of buyers but other manufacturers as well.
