Travel trailers are great additions to any road trip, and they’re one of the most convenient vehicles to tow. Since you can pull them with a wide variety of vehicles, they’ve become popular with people who have cars of all shapes, sizes, widths, and lengths. However, towing a travel trailer might make your vehicle a lot wider than you expected, so it’s important to know their dimensions.
Travel trailers are generally 8 feet (or 96 inches) wide. On the other hand, most LITE or compact travel trailers are between 6 and 7 feet wide. They can sometimes be a bit wider than that with safety equipment, slide-outs, or other extensions. However, no travel trailer is wider than 8.5 feet.
Every state has laws regarding the length, height, and width restrictions of travel trailers. These all vary somewhat, but generally, the consensus is that trailers must have widths between 8 and 8.5 feet. Below I’ve got 11 examples of travel trailers. Together, these constitute a pretty accurate representation of the average trailer widths in real life.
Flagstaff E-Pro E12SRK
- Width: 84 inches (7 feet)
- Length: 720 inches (12 feet)
- Height: 90 inches (7 feet, 6 inches)
The Flagstaff E-Pro is an extremely small and compact travel trailer. As such, all of its measurements are smaller than the average. As you can see, this one is only 7 feet wide and it doesn’t come with any extra slide-outs that would bulk out this measurement.
This is one of the smallest trailers on the market, but it still comes with a small kitchen, sleeping space, storage, and even an entertainment center! It doesn’t need to be wide to fit all of these great things inside.

Cherokee 234VFK
- Width: 97 inches (8 feet, 1 inch)
- Length: 348 inches (29 feet)
- Height: 133 inches (11 feet, 1 inch)
This travel trailer is much longer than the previous one. It comes with much more space on the inside and outside, which is reflected in its larger measurements. As you can see, this one is not only wider, but it’s also taller and longer.
However, this one also falls into the more typical width measurement for a travel trailer. It’s just barely over 8 feet wide, which is pretty standard. This model also does come with a single slide-out. This would increase its width when it’s extended, but doesn’t really factor in when everything is collapsed.

Impression 25RB
- Width: 96 inches (8 feet)
- Length: 349 inches (29 feet, 1 inch)
- Height: 127 inches (10 feet, 7 inches)
The Impression line of travel trailers are spacious and comfortable products. This one offers a large bedroom, a living room, a full kitchen, and a large bathroom in the back. All of these luxuries are packed into a space that falls neatly into the standard width of 8 feet.
This is the first travel trailer on the list that fits the average width perfectly, clocking in at a perfect 96 inches. It comes with a single slide-out as well, but that doesn’t affect the standard measurements in any meaningful way.

Rockwood Geo Pro G14FK
- Width: 76 inches (6 feet, 4 inches)
- Length: 169 feet (14 feet, 1 inch)
- Height: 112 inches (9 feet, 4 inches)
Once again, this is a model that’s smaller than average. Extra small travel trailers don’t fit the standard measurements and this one is one of the most compact models. It’s just over 6 feet wide, but still does a great job!
This one packs in a kitchen, bathroom, dinette, and entertainment center. Not many models this size can fit all of that, but this one manages everything quite well. It also comes with an awning and extension for a gas grill. Despite these additions, it’s still probably the thinnest travel trailer on this list.

This is another travel trailer that fits the bill with a perfect 8-foot width. It has a relatively compact interior, with a queen bed occupying the back end and a large dinette in the front. The bathroom and kitchen space sit in the middle.
There’s a single small slide-out for the kitchen space and there’s a good amount of walking room in the center. This is a pretty classic travel trailer model in terms of measurements and specifications.

This is one of the longer travel trailers on the list, but once again, it sticks firmly to the 8 foot standard for full-sized trailers. This one has a single long slide-out that contains a dinette and sofa. The rest of the space is occupied with a full kitchen, a set of bunk beds, a bathroom, and a bedroom in the front half.
There’s a lot of space and comforts inside this travel trailer, but everything still remains well contained in its standardized width.

Jayco Hummingbird 17RB
- Width: 97 inches (8 feet, 1 inch)
- Length: 237 inches (19 feet, 9 inches)
- Height: 78 inches (6 feet, 6 inches)
This travel trailer is just a bit wider than average, which might be due to its awning attachments and the single slide-out along the backside. However, you still get a lot of value for your money with this model. It neatly fits a large bedroom in one end, a full-sized bathroom in the other, and a kitchen and dining space in the middle.
Overall this model is a bit smaller than others, but it really maximized every inch of space.

The White Hawk 27RB is a huge luxury travel trailer. As you can see, it’s got one of the biggest lengths on this list and every inch is used to its fullest potential. It has a single slide-out and a 9-inch awning, but these don’t push its width above the 8-foot average.
This floorplan has a large bedroom at the front, a large combined living room and kitchen in the center, and big storage space and bathroom in the back.

The Eagle Travel Trailer is an absolute monster of a vehicle. It’s loaded from back to front with luxuries and comforts. And somehow, it’s still just 8 feet wide!
It has a total of 3 slide-outs which help to expand its footprint when everything is fully extended. These slide-outs don’t contribute to the overall width when they’re collapsed though.
