The cost of a new RV can often range higher than just one pretty penny. However, knowing the average cost of the RV you are looking to buy help can help you prepare and save for the larger bill.
Class C RVs have a wide average price range. Depending on a few different factors (age, make, model, size, prior damage), the price of the Class C RV you are hoping to buy could land anywhere between $12,000 and $150,000.
As I just mentioned, there are a few different factors that will affect the price of a Class C RV. These factors include the RV’s age, the make, model, size, and any prior damage that may have occurred. Class C RV Price Factors
When you go to purchase your next Class C RV, be sure to consider each of the factors below to determine whether or not you are being offered a fair price.
If after careful consideration you feel that the quality of the RV does not qualify the price, don’t be afraid to negotiate or barter the price down!
Year Built
The age of the RV you are purchasing is going to be one of the largest determining factors in the price.
It goes without saying that a newer RV is going to have a much higher price tag than an older model.
Before you purchase the newest, most advanced RV model on the market, be sure to look at a few older models and see if the higher price is really worth it.
Going along with the year the RV was built, whether or not the RV is new or used is going to have a significant impact on the overall cost.
Look at the mileage on the RV and compare it to service records. If the RV has high miles and has not been serviced in quite some time, you should expect a shorter life span and therefore a lower price.
Do not be afraid to haggle with the dealer or whoever is selling the RV. It is extremely likely that they listed the price above what they are truly willing to take for the RV. So take the risk and possibly save yourself a few extra dollars!
Make / Manufacturer
When you go to the grocery store, how often do you find yourself choosing the grocery store brand over the name brand product because of the price difference?
Brand name products are always listed at a higher price simply because they have a well-known reputation and you are therefore more likely to choose their item.
However, because of this, the grocery store is able to mark down their own items making them slightly more desirable.
RV manufacturers practice this same tactic with only a few slight differences.
The larger RV manufacturers are going to list their prices much higher simply because their reputation allows them to do so without risking a loss in profits.
Taking a look at some of the lesser-known manufacturers may help you find a quality motorhome for a much lower price.
A few less well-known Class C RV manufacturers are Leisure Travel, Coach House, Chinook, and Tiffin Motorhomes.
Class C RVs from these manufacturers cost several tens of thousands of dollars less than a name brand such as Thor Motor Coach would cost you.
So next time you look at purchasing a new Class C RV, be sure to look at a few non-name brand options!
Size
The size of the RV you purchase is going to factor greatly into the cost of your Class C RV. The larger the RV is, the more materials will be required, and therefore the higher the price will be.
Unless you are looking for an RV that provides you with the ultimate luxury travel experience, consider purchasing a smaller RV.
Class C RVs are the perfect in between for families looking for an affordable and comfortable way to travel. Always make sure the RV you are purchasing meets the needs of your family, but be careful not to splurge too much for all the newest amenities and extra space included in a large RV.
On the same note, you should never sacrifice too much space just to save a few extra dollars. For example, it may be possible to squeeze 5 or 6 people into an RV listed to sleep maximum 3 or 4 people. However, doing so may lead to a miserable vacation full of complaining kids.
When trying to find the perfect size of the Class C RV for you and your family, look for one with enough beds for everyone in your family (spouse, kids, and pets) plus one.
Having that extra sleeping space will make it much easier to accommodate guests and friends who may travel with you occasionally.
Prior Damage
While you may assume purchasing a new RV will make it so that you do not need to look for any existing damage, you are wrong.
Whether you are purchasing a new or used RV, it is always wise to look closely for any sign of damage throughout the entire RV.
New RVs may have blemishes from manufacturing or damages from transportation. While the damages may only be minor or cosmetic, you may be able to argue for a lower price!
When purchasing a used RV you should pay special attention to any signs of damage throughout the unit. Some damages to look for include water damage, dents, scratches, mold, and amenities that do not work.
Before purchasing any RV, walk through looking for any tiny problem that could possibly become a larger problem down the road. After purchasing the RV, chances are if you find a problem the dealership or seller will not claim responsibility and you will be left to deal with the consequences on your own.
Extra Features
One of the final factors affecting the price of your Class C RV is any added features.
When you see an RVs list price, you are seeing the base price. This price includes only the basics of a floor plan.
Most manufacturers allow you to purchase bonus or added features in order to customize your RV and make it more of a luxury travel space.
However, these added features (such as stereo systems, custom interiors, etc.) do not come for a small price. The more features you add, the faster the overall price or your RV climbs.

Super Class C RV
If you simply search “Class C RVs” on an online retailer, then you may be surprised with a price tag of $500,000 popping up in the results.
This $500,000 does not fit within the average price range of a classic Class C RV. Why? Well, chances are that you are looking at what we call a Super Class C RV.
A Class C RV is built on a pick-up or truck chassis. So what exactly makes a Super Class C RV super and why is it still considered a Class C?
The difference between a Class C and a Super Class C is that a Super Class C RV is built on a much larger semi-truck or heavy duty truck chassis.
We still call this a Class C RV because the chassis is still a “truck chassis”- even if it is much larger.
