Taco driver 1976 analysis

I finshed watching this movie a hour ago and I can't stop thinking about so I write this post to clear my thoughtsSpoilers aheadThe movie was amazing and I can see the clearly thr influence it had on the joker but back to the movie I loved it, the jazz soundtrack had a whole surreal feel to the movie, ambiguity and the protagonist is amazing one of my all time favsTravis bickle- he was a marine core who fought in the Vietnam War and was hournably discharged and is now looking for a job and ends up as a taxi driver1) he is a mental unstable or has a lot of mental problems, his loneliness, his need for attention and praise, how he desperately seeks for escapism via porn movies and how he views himself to somewhat of a God or vigilante to clear the streets for scum who he absolutely hates2) his lonelieness is one of the themes and a big charecter trait for Travis in the beganing of the movie we see how just drives with a empty look and has said many times that he doesn't know what to do and is generally confused in life sitting and thinking how he jsut he a direction in life to get moving but this doesn't happen and he keeps doing the same thing everyday kinda like us3) how he views the world, the movie has a interesting choice of camera in the beganing you can see that everything except him is blurry even with close up of strangers they are blurry which shows how isolated he kinds feels where everyone is just a blur4) his background, Travis doesn't have much education as stated in the beganing so probably he grew up in relatively poor environment, he then probably joined the marines and fought in Vietnam War where he probably got tourchred due to the big scar in his back later shown in the flimHe probably also killed a children in the war which probably explains why he was so concerned about iris5) the shoot out, OK let's first explain his relationship with iris so because he probably killed some kids in Vietnam he believes that every kid should have normal life and do normal things and not do prostitution at such a young age and how the people around her are scum due to this he lends her some money to go and do some thing else somewhere else but when he does the shootout he probably went forward with the idea to clear the scums themself by himself which he succeeded in and got shot and wondedHe tries to kill him self there and then, shotting alot of times, I think this symbolizes how many times he's tried to kill himself but failed or he just wanted to die then and nothing else, but regardless there were no bullets so he sat on a couch and waited to die there but when the cops came in he finger shorted himself in the head probably meaning that hes already dead and just exists or that even if you shoot him on the head he doesnt careNext we see alot of news papers and a letter how iris came back and everything I think this is a lie and it's likely that iris is still being abused even worse now6) he clearly is in a not so good head space as he says I have alot of bad ideas and brings his first girlfriend to a porn movie which greatly disturbs herI think he has bad ideas in his head but needs a catalyst to go forward with it like when he killed those guys he had a catalyst which was to kill the scum who were pedophilesAt the end he got what he wanted and instead of looking like a murderer he is praised as a hero in the news papers then his first girlfriend Betty goes into his taxi and probably gained interest in him again but Travis is over that and makes her ride free and leaves7)his need for praise and attention, this is a short one but his need to be a vigilant who cleans the streets and how he talks when he gets on that bed and compliments him slef and think people will see him as a hero8) the jazz soundtrack elevate the movie to high grounds because that jazz music and that surreal feel which comes with is unique and brilliantWhy I loved the movie, I loved mainly because of Travis and how I could relate sometimes, the music, the whole complexity of thingsOverall I think I need to re-watch the movie 2- 3 times to fully grasp itBut I loved this movie and hope you will check it out and hope this post entertained youGoodbye via /r/movies https://ift.tt/3x6sLjV
