can ginger juice regrow hair

how to make ginger juice to regrow hair

Is garlic or ginger better for hair?

When I was 14 years old, I suffered from alopecia.  As I had a very small bald spot, I recovered from it in around 5-6 months and now, thanks to my mommy darling, I have waist length hair *doing happy dance* LOL, I flaunt it all the time 😉 😛 I am writing in detail about alopecia, its symptoms, treatment and my own experience.

Best+Homemade+Treatments+For+Hair+Loss+in+Women

Last year, in November, my best friend suffered from terrible hair loss and even got a small bald patch.  Fearing it could be alopecia, I asked her to consult a dermatologist immediately, but she went on a full panic attack slash denial mode and refused to see any doctor. Instead, she bugged me for some remedies and routines that I was following. I am no doctor, so I didn’t gave her any medicine’s name, just told her about three ingredients that have really helped me in not just fighting against alopecia, but also the occasional hair fall and thinning of hair as well. She immediately took my advice and saw the difference in just 3-4 months and now the bald spot is not visible; new hair has grown and even the crazy hair fall has stopped.  The three magical things are – onion, garlic, and ginger – the holy trinity.” I am not going to talk about some curry here 😛

How Does Garlic, Onion, and Ginger Help in Treating and Preventing Hair Problems:

How do I prepare ginger for hair growth?

Humans have been infusing onion, garlic and ginger in their hair treatments and remedies for centuries now. These ingredients have stimulating properties which facilitate healthy hair growth and thereby treating bald spots, hair fall, thinning of hair and alopecia too. What they do is they increase blood circulation in the scalp. When blood flows to the scalp, it stimulates and rejuvenates the hair follicles thus nourishing and encouraging hair growth.

Onion, garlic and ginger are all root veggies; therefore, they are loaded with loads of nutrients and fatty acids which boosts hair growth, nurtures and strengthens them from the root to the tip and give them a body. So, lather juices of these wonder foods if you have thin hair, alopecia problems or simply want to grow-out a bad haircut 😛

Ginger tea

These three also have anti-bacterial properties, so they help in removing any toxin or fungal build up on hair roots thus promoting healthy hair.

Sulfur- “the beauty mineral” is found lavishly in the roots of these.  Sulfur is the third most abundant mineral found in our body and is present in every cell with high concentration in hair, skin and nail. Keratin, the key structural component of hair, skin and nails is loaded with sulfur containing amino acid cysteine which constitutes 14% of the hair; the smell you get when hair burns is because of this. The goodness of sulfur and keratin deserves a whole new post 😛 To summarize things, sulfur is really beneficial for your hair as it supplies right nutrients for hair growth.

Onion, garlic and ginger also have anti-inflammatory properties that help to decrease inflammation, redness and swelling.  These also cure dry and itchy scalp.

How do you make ginger hair serum?

Garlic treatment for hair loss

How To Use:

The most simple way is to just apply the juice of raw onion, garlic or ginger on your whole scalp or rub a little on the bald spot, leave it for minimum 20 minutes and then wash it off with a shampoo.  Make sure you use one of these juices and not mix all three of them.

Garlic can be a little too strong to be applied directly on the scalp. So, take a few garlic cloves and crush them a bit, just slightly, and then heat the garlic cloves with your regular hair oil and apply this garlic-infused oil on your whole hair – from roots to tips. One additional tip here, when heating the garlic with the oil, you could add a handful of curry leaves to it to make the oil more nutritious.

You can do the same with ginger too.

One can also leave the juice on the hair for overnight and shampoo it off in the morning, but I would suggest applying the juice on the roots of your hair and leaving it for an hour maximum and then applying your hair oil and then leave it for the night.

I also add any one of the juice to my hair masks. I like to mix a bit of onion or ginger juice to my egg and banana weekend mask.

Ginger is also very useful for dandruff problems. So, mix 1 part of crushed ginger juice with 2 parts of your hair oil, no need of any heating, simply massage this mixture on your scalp with circular motion. Leave it for 30 minutes and then shampoo it off.

Additional Points:

GINGER HAIR MASK | EXTREME HAIR GROWTH

These three can be very strong on your scalp and cause irritation. A little bit of tingly sensation and warmth is okay, but if irritation is beyond your comfort zone, then please immediately wash it off.

Always opt for raw roots. Natural sulfur is better for hair than any supplements.

I would recommend not mixing the juices of these roots together. Use just one, any one of the three at one time. Like you can go for onion or ginger during weekdays and opt for garlic during the weekends.

If you are allergic to onion, garlic or ginger, then please don’t try these remedies. Consult a doctor before starting the treatments.

These three can lighten your hair color so when leaving it for longer time or overnight, I would recommend mixing the juice with hair oil or applying some oil before going to bed.

The smell can be a little too strong, especially that of garlic. For that, you can follow the remedies as they are and after shampooing off the juice you can use vinegar or lemon juice mixed with water as the final wash.

Do not rub the crushed roots forcefully or too hard on your scalp, as it will do more harm than good.

It takes 3-4 months for the results to show, so be patient.

Out of these three wonder roots, garlic is more potent, but has a strong smell therefore many prefer onions and then ginger for hair remedies. All three of them are equally good and are loaded with good nutrients that are very beneficial for hair growth, treating hair loss, thinning of hair and thereby help cure alopecia, but these are all home remedies, hence if you are having crazy hair fall or you see a bald spot on your hair, no matter how small it is, please consult a doctor as soon as possible, don’t live in denial.  Alopecia is curable, I have overcome it, fight it!

Garlic and Jojoba oil for hair

Garlic + olive oil + jojoba oil + coconut oil

Peel and blend 15 large cloves of garlic into a paste. Add 4 tbsp olive oil to this and blend further. Strain the mixture to do away with the garlic. Add ½ cup coconut oil, 1 tbsp jojoba oil and 4 drops of tea tree oil to this garlic infused olive oil. Apply it to your scalp and hair concentrating on the hair tips. Wrap your hair in a hot towel and leave for 20 minutes before you wash off with a sulphate-free shampoo. Condition your hair and wash. Dry your hair naturally. Why jojoba oil? It's considered a soothing emollient. It's also rich in anti-fungal properties that are vital for keeping the scalp in the pink of health. Jojoba can help you get rid of the irritating layers of dead skin on the scalp . What's more, jojoba is rich in vitamin E, Omega 6 and 9 fatty acids and a saturated fatty acid that fights harmful free radicals that can damage our hair. Jojoba oil can also effectively unclog hair follicles.

Garlic and honey for hair

Garlic + honey

Take 16 cloves of garlic and one tablespoon of honey. Grind the garlic cloves to get two tbsp of juice. Mix the garlic juice and honey together. Apply to the roots. Massage the scalp. In other words, honey moisturises your tresses and keeps the moisture locked in your hair.

Take around 15-16 garlic cloves and extract the juice from them. Add two tbsp of olive oil, one tbsp of honey and one egg yolk to the garlic juice. 4. Can Garlic Promote Hair Growth?

Garlic is rich in nutrients such as vitamins B-6 and C, manganese, and selenium and they all help in stimulating hair growth. Garlic is also feted for its commendable anti-microbial properties - in other words, it can kill germs and bacteria that can prevent a healthy hair growth . Garlic also helps in keeping the scalp healthy by preventing clogging of hair follicles. Thus garlic can be effective in preventing hair loss . A 2007 study showed that applying garlic gel can help in hair regrowth for alopecia areata cases.

Garlic for Hair Growth

Garlic also contains something called allicin, which has strong antioxidant and anti-inflammation properties. This in a way can promote hair growth . Essentially, it is a compound produced when garlic is crushed or chopped.

But, of course, garlic can’t be the only solution for hair fall .  Some of the worrying causes of hair loss include hormonal imbalance, anaemia, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), eating disorders, thyroid, auto-immune disorders such as lupus and Vitamin B deficiency. Then there are conditions called alopecia and trichotillomania (basically, a disorder that makes people compulsively pull out their own hair). If it's alopecia, you need to know the type and then you can chalk out an effective method of treatment against it. But, in general, you can use garlic to keep your hair healthy.

Can Ginger Cure Baldness?

Here are some DIY hair masks containing garlic that can stimulate hair growth:

Garlic + olive oil + water

You need around 10 cloves of garlic. Add a few drops of olive oil to a cup of water. Boil the mix. Apply directly to your roots for thick hair. Continue this treatment for three weeks at least.

Garlic for hair

Garlic oil + castor oil + coconut oil + rosemary oil

Prepare garlic oil using the method mentioned above. Take 6 tbsp of garlic oil, 2 tbsp each of castor oil and coconut oil and one tsp of rosemary oil. Mix them all and keep in a jar. Take three tbsp of this blended oil and massage your hair and scalp with it. Wait for a couple of hours before washing off with a mild shampoo. Why castor oil and rosemary? Castor oil has ricinoleic acid and omega 6 essential fatty acids, which boost blood circulation to the scalp, thereby increasing hair growth. Like garlic, rosemary oil too can promote hair growth.

Tip: Keep on using any of these masks for at least six months to boost hair growth .

Garlic for hair

5. Can Garlic Fight Dandruff?

This is another benefit of garlic for hair. Again, allicin, produced from chopped garlic, is the magic compound here. Because of its anti-fungal properties, allicin can demolish fungi like P ovale that is believed to cause white flakes. Then there is something called seborrheic dermatitis, linked to Malassezia, which normally feasts on oils secreted by hair follicles and the resulting oleic acid from this binging is believed to cause scalp irritation. If the fungi become too active, dandruff can be a painful outcome. So, allicin might be effective against this variety of fungi as well. But of course you shouldn't rely only on garlic to get rid of dandruff . Consult a doctor if the problem gets serious. There can be several factors, including yeast overgrowth and improper diet, leading to dandruff.

But, generally speaking, you can use any of these DIY hair masks, containing garlic, to keep dandruff at bay:

Garlic + lemon juice + honey

Take a few garlic cloves and ensure that you extract about 3 tbsp of juice from them. Add one tbsp each of garlic and honey to the juice. Apply the mask on your scalp and wait for 45 minutes. Wash off with a mild shampoo. Why lemon? While the antibacterial and anti-fungal properties of honey will keep the dandruff-causing microbes at bay, the citric acid in lemon helps restore the normal pH balance of the scalp, which in turn, helps in restraining an overgrowth of those irritating white flakes. Moreover, the astringent effect of lemon juice balances out the sebum level of the scalp, preventing it from becoming itchy, excessively greasy or dry and thereby containing dandruff.

Garlic and curd for hair

Garlic + curd + castor oil + honey

Take a few garlic cloves and extract about two tbsp juice from them. Add 2 tbsp each of castor oil, honey and curd to the juice. Mix well. Apply on your hair and scalp. Wait for about 30 min. Rinse off with a mild shampoo. While curd will fight dryness, the honey and castor oil combination can curb dandruff.

Garlic + aloe vera + olive oil

Take a few garlic cloves and extract about three tbsp of juice from them. Add two teaspoons aloe vera gel and one teaspoon of olive oil to the juice. Apply on scalp and hair and wait for about an hour. Wash off with a mild shampoo. Why aloe vera? Aloe vera is known as a natural moisturising agent, which also helps in curbing fungal growth on the scalp.

Tip: Garlic is recommended as a natural anti-dandruff remedy. Try to use it as often as you can.

Does Ayurveda Prescribe Garlic For Hair And Health?

It does. In fact, garlic is often described as a mahoushadha (a super medicine). Ayurveda experts say that garlic can help in addressing vata imbalance. They also recommend taking around 3-4 grams of peeled garlic paste every day. Don't increase the quantity drastically. One can also take garlic in milk. Do consult an Ayurveda expert before self-prescribing garlic.

HOW I MAKE & USE ONION + GINGER JUICE: There are a lot of ways the juice can be extracted from onion & ginger but this is the most suitable way for me and this way I get most out of the onion & ginger plus I don’t have wastage as I use the remnant to cook soup.

I peel and cut onion and ginger into smaller pieces,

Blend the two together to form a thick paste,

Sieve the mixture; I ensure not to press the thick paste through the sieve to avoid having white particles in the juice,

I put the juice in a suitable container (drip bottle),

Add a couple of drops of tea tree & peppermint oils (they both have amazing benefits on scalp health and promotes hair growth),

Apply the mixture on my scalp directly,

Massage my scalp for a couple of minutes,

Cover my hair with a plastic cap for about 30 minutes,

Wash with a good shampoo and condition my hair.

How to use ginger for hair

The internet is full of recipes that purportedly help with hair growth. While scientifically unfounded, applying ginger to your scalp and hair can still be an invigorating experience. Here are a few methods to try.

Ginger oil

Ginger oil comes in the form of extracts or essential oils, the latter of which needs to be diluted with a carrier oil before applying. Use the product throughout the scalp and hair for a spicy, invigorating aroma. Rinse out after 15 to 30 minutes.

Ginger juice

Ginger juice is made directly from ginger root. You may cut off an edge of a fresh root and massage directly onto your scalp. Another method is to puree the root in a blender and apply all over your hair.

Ginger hair mask

To make a ginger hair mask, you may use ginger juice, essential oil, or extract combined with equal parts of a carrier oil, such as argan, coconut, or jojoba. Massage into the scalp and cover your hair evenly. Place a cap over your hair and leave on up to 30 minutes before rinsing out.

If treating the scalp only, you may add something acidic to the mask, such as yogurt, lemon, or apple cider vinegar.

Ginger supplements

Ginger supplements are available in the form of teas, capsules, and tablets. When taking ginger by mouth, follow all product instructions carefully and discontinue if any gastrointestinal side effects occur.

Speak with a doctor before taking supplements of any kind. Keep in mind that ginger supplements haven’t been scientifically linked to hair growth.

With a medicinal value dating back thousands of years, ginger has been well researched with many of its traditional uses confirmed and still used today.Ginger, also known as  Zingiber officinale , is from the Zingiberaceae family, which is closely related to the turmeric and cardamom. Ginger originated in the tropical jungles of Southern Asia, dating back to over 5000 years ago, and is mentioned in ancient Chinese, Indian, and Middle Eastern writings and prized for its culinary and medicinal properties.   The commonly known spice ginger is the rhizome (the underground portion of the individual spears) of the ginger plant.

What are the benefits of ginger?

Ginger is loaded with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties like beta-carotene, capsaicin, caffeic acid, and gingerols. It is full of vitamins, minerals, anti-viral, circulation-stimulating, detoxifying, digestive, and antiseptic compounds. This explains why it is so widely used for ailments like the common cold, vomiting, motion sickness, nausea, mild stomach upset, pregnancy, and even cancer chemotherapy.

Why is ginger so great for your hair?

In Ayurveda, ginger is highly regarded as a hair growth treatment. There are several components in ginger that aid in hair growth like magnesium, phosphorous, and potassium. These minerals help stimulate blood flow to the scalp, which encourages restored hair growth. Ginger has an abundance of fatty acids that help with thinning hair, so while it is encouraging blood flow to the scalp it is also preventing thinning hair from turning into hair loss.

Ginger has natural antiseptic properties that provide alleviation for dandruff. Just mix 2 tablespoons of grated ginger with 3 tablespoons of olive or sesame oil and a dash of lemon juice. Massage into your scalp and leave in for 30 minutes or overnight before rinsing. This mix should be used at least three times a week until dandruff has been remedied. Besides helping with hair growth ginger is also known to help with eliminating dandruff and adding sheen.

Ginger for thinning edges

Thinning edges is a common problem and can occur from genetics, hormones, certain medications, or excessive styling. Overuse of ponytails that are pulling too tightly, slicking down edges with gels that contain drying alcohols, wig caps, and glues can also damage your delicate edges. With the blood circulating properties in ginger, you can turn a nightly massage into something more than just a relaxing way of drifting off to sleep. You can simply squeeze the juice from the ginger and massage it into your edges with with jojoba oil avocado oil. This should turn into a nightly routine to encourage the hairs to stop breaking and to regrow those edges. Keep in mind that ginger does two things for thinning edges: stop the hair from falling off by even more and stimulate the hair follicles to grow at its own optimal speed. It does not make it grow faster, but it increases blood flow to the scalp to stimulate the hair follicles and encourage growth.

DIY Massage Oil for Edges

Ginger oil

Jojoba, olive or avocado oil

Mix equal parts of ginger root oil with another oil like jojoba, avocado, or olive oil. Massage the oil mixture onto the scalp around the edges gently and in a circular motion. This can be used on your entire scalp as well. Do nightly until you feel they have grown back fully.  There is no need for a lot of the mixture to be used during each application or you will end up with an oily mess ,so use enough to gently massage and not leave significant residue. Understand that this will not work if you are still using those techniques that may have caused the thinning edges in the first place so do not cause tension to your edges while you work on growing them back. If the scalp is thinning due to hormonal problems or medicine then seek the advice of a medical professional on what you can do to revive the problem without interfering with your health. If you are more interested in just using ginger as a hair growth remedy, then I have a great and popular mix below!

Take a fresh ginger root and peel the outer covering. The fresher the ginger root the more affective it is on your scalp. Now there are two ways to use ginger for treating bald spots or the area where you feel you have lost a lot of hair and hair is thinning.

First way is poking the ginger root tip with a fork till it oozes out juice and then rubbing it on the affected area. Massage it for few minutes do not let it dry or keep for longer hours. You can secure it by wrapping a towel on your hair or wearing a shower cap. Leave it on for 15-20 minutes. Wash off your hair using a mild shampoo following your hair care routine.

Second way is taking a fresh ginger root, peel the outer covering and cut it into small pieces. Now blend the pieces using a little amount of water or as required till it blends into a fine paste as shown in the picture below.

Apply the paste to your entire scalp using a brush, or your fingers making hair sections. I prefer using a brush as it is less messy and the paste gets distributed evenly on the scalp. Once applied to the scalp massage it for few minutes and wrap a towel to keep it from drying. Your scalp would feel the warming effect and tingle for a while as the Ginger stimulates your scalp and increases the blood flow. So, if you feel the warm and tingling effect it’s a good news the ginger juice has started working on scalp reviving the dead follicles. But don’t worry because the tingling settles after few minutes. Keep the ginger juice on for 30 minutes and wash it off with a mild shampoo.
